Nursery at Maybury Primary School

Morning and afternoon sessions give Maybury’s nursery its part-time shape. There are 52 part-time nursery places within Maybury Primary School on Maybury Road in Hull. The provision is called Foundation 1, or F1, distinguishing it from the school years that follow.
A purpose-built school building houses the provision. It opened in November 2007 and has a single-level layout, with broad corridors and wheelchair-accessible doorways. For families managing mobility needs, those physical details matter alongside the support arranged for an individual child.
F1 children attend morning sessions, afternoon sessions or both. The morning runs from 8:30 to 11:30am; the afternoon runs from 1pm to 3pm. These are separate blocks, so families choosing both need to account for the interval between them when planning their day.
School routines are explicitly taught, then practised and revisited. They are adapted according to children’s ages and individual special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). A tambourine provides the signal to stop and listen. Great Listening and Wonderful Walking are named routines, giving children recognisable language for paying attention and moving around the building.
Parents can discuss additional needs with the class teacher or special educational needs coordinator (SENCO). Support follows a cycle of assessing needs, planning help, putting it into practice and reviewing its effect. Parents take part in developing and reviewing support plans, giving their knowledge of the child a place in decisions.
Across the school, adjustments can include movement breaks, seating changes for hearing or visual needs, and changes to uniform requirements for sensory difficulties or severe eczema. These are individual responses rather than a single package for every child. Behaviour expectations are also adjusted for age and SEND.
Communication about behaviour includes conversations in person, telephone contact and the Dojo system. Positive messages through Class Dojo let parents see what their child has been praised for. Safeguarding concerns can be raised with the school’s child protection coordinators by telephone.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions route and meet the deadline for their child’s entry year.
For the 2026–2027 admissions cycle, nursery attendance conferred no priority. Children with an EHC plan naming the school had to be admitted. After those places were allocated, where applications exceeded the remaining places, oversubscription criteria covered care status, qualifying staff children, catchment residence, siblings and distance. Hull City Council coordinates applications and offers. That cycle’s application deadline was 12 January 2026, which has passed; it should not be treated as the deadline for a later intake.

The school uniform combines a white or red polo shirt with grey or black bottoms and a red cardigan or sweatshirt. Plain versions are permitted; branded polo shirts, sweatshirts and cardigans can be obtained from the office. This gives families a choice when buying clothing.
