Nursery at Paull Primary School

Sticks, bottle tops and cuddly toys give Paull’s early years learning a practical character: children make instruments and use imaginative games to explore mathematical language. This is nursery provision within Paull Primary School, taking children from the age of three in the village of Paull. Flexible attendance is offered throughout the week.
Early years provision was graded Good at the Ofsted inspection on 3 and 4 June 2025. That judgement covers the school’s early years provision, rather than a separately inspected nursery. For parents, the useful detail is the combination of hands-on activity and planned learning, with language and physical skills developed through play.
Morning nursery runs from 09:00 to 12:00, with an afternoon session from 12:30 to 15:30. Lunch occupies the half-hour between them. These give families two clear session windows around which to organise the day.
Within the early years foundation stage (EYFS), learning includes early language, number vocabulary and dexterity. In June 2025, children practised mathematical words through pretend play involving cuddly toys. That gives new language a concrete context: children use the words while playing, rather than simply hearing them explained.
Making musical instruments from bottle tops and sticks develops control of small movements while giving children something to create. Outdoor learning space is part of the school’s provision, and this early years activity shows how simple materials become learning resources. Sounds and vocabulary are introduced from the start, placing early reading alongside practical exploration. In June 2025, early years learning was carefully planned to build important skills.
Regular school newsletters keep families informed about class activities, events and announcements, helping parents stay connected with what children are doing. For concerns about a child’s wellbeing, parents can speak to the teacher or teaching assistant, or contact the school’s wellbeing team through the office. This gives families a direct starting point for a conversation.
The school’s support structure includes Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSA), targeted help for short-term needs and referral to specialist services for more specific needs. These are school-wide arrangements. Paull also encourages children to eat school dinners and describes its meals as healthy and balanced; nursery lunchtime is scheduled from 12:00 to 12:30.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application to the local authority where they live, meeting its application deadline. East Riding residents apply through East Riding of Yorkshire Council; families living elsewhere use their home local authority. Treat that application as a separate task when planning the move to school.
The nursery’s morning and afternoon sessions sit within its flexible weekly provision. Enquiries go to the school office on 01482 898352 or paull.primary@eastriding.gov.uk. Families can also arrange a school visit by telephone, giving them an opportunity to discuss the provision in person.
