Nursery at Wold Academy
Last reviewed: October 2026 · Inspection data and key information above update regularly, however, this review below is refreshed bi-annually and may not reflect recent changes. Contact the nursery directly to confirm current arrangements. If you spot anything outdated or inaccurate, please let us know.
Beehive gives Wold Academy’s youngest children their own starting point: children can join this provision in the term following their second birthday, then enter nursery in the term following their third. Nursery is part of the academy on Wold Road in Hull. Its planned capacity is 52 full time equivalent nursery places, a capacity measure rather than a count of children attending.
The distinction between Beehive and nursery matters when choosing a starting point. Families begin by contacting the school office, and visits are welcomed so parents can see the setting before making their decision.
Books and language give the early years provision its character. In February 2025, children’s early learning included immersion in books, while widgets supported progress in writing, including for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). These are concrete ways of connecting language with early literacy.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) covers early learning and development, including building language through books and beginning to write. Assessment across developmental areas informs subsequent activities and identifies additional support needs. For a child who needs adjustments, specialist assistance can also form part of assessment, helping staff plan from the child’s individual starting point.
Settling starts before the first nursery session. Children visit as part of their transition, and an induction meeting gives parents and children a chance to meet staff and raise questions. That makes the first step a shared introduction rather than simply a start date.
For children with SEND, the school’s support structure brings together the class teacher, SENCO and support staff. Termly Support Plans record targets and the provision intended to help children meet them; reviews take place in October, February and June. Parents can raise concerns with their child’s teacher and have an additional termly opportunity to meet the SENCO where required.
Medical care has a separate planning process. Children in EYFS with medical needs have a Health Care Plan developed with parents and healthcare professionals. Medicines are stored in a locked cupboard in the medical room. This gives families a practical route for agreeing how their child’s health needs will be managed.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee admission to Wold Academy’s Reception, and it gives no priority in the oversubscription criteria. A separate application is required. Familiarity with the school does not replace that application.
For September 2027 entry, Hull residents submit Hull City Council’s Common Application Form by 15 January 2027. Families living elsewhere apply through their home local authority. Keep that deadline separate from arrangements for joining nursery: the two processes serve different stages of your child’s education.
Contact the school office on 01482 353259 or email enquiries@woldacademy.co.uk to begin an enquiry. The academy’s address is Wold Road, Hull, HU5 5QG.
For families discussing additional needs, the school building has wheelchair access and accessible toilets throughout. These physical arrangements are useful starting points for a visit and a conversation about the adjustments an individual child needs.
Beehive entry can begin in the term after a child’s second birthday; nursery entry can begin in the term after their third birthday.
Yes. Parents and carers are welcome to visit, and children joining nursery have transition visits and an induction meeting with staff.
No. It provides no oversubscription priority, and families must make a separate Reception application.
The deadline is 15 January 2027. Hull residents apply through Hull City Council; other families use their home local authority.
Start with your child’s class teacher. The SENCO also supports discussions about special educational needs and disabilities.
