Nursery at Cliff Lane Primary School

Forest School starts with the youngest children at Cliff Lane: Bees nursery joins in outdoor learning rather than waiting until later school years. The provision is part of Cliff Lane Primary School in Ipswich and caters for children aged 3 and 4. Families can choose morning, afternoon or all-day attendance.
At the February 2024 Ofsted inspection, early years provision was judged Good. That judgement covers the school's early years provision, rather than a separately inspected nursery.
Songs, rhymes and conversation give the early years day its shape. In February 2024, children followed established routines, responded to adults' questions and practised waiting for their turn to answer. Rhymes supported learning across the curriculum. These are useful foundations for taking part in a group: listening matters alongside speaking.
Reading begins in the early years, while the school aims to use its early years approach to encourage curiosity and enjoyment of learning. Trips, visitors and clubs also begin at this stage, extending children's experiences beyond their usual activities.
Forest School adds a distinct outdoor strand. Nursery children participate, and the school grounds include a wildlife area, an outdoor classroom, a vegetable garden and a large field. Practical exploration takes place through the seasons and in different weather. For a parent choosing Bees, that makes outdoor clothing part of the routine, rather than something reserved for an occasional outing. The school describes Forest School as a way to develop independence, teamwork and problem-solving through practical experiences.
Support sits within the school's inclusion structure. The SEND team coordinates assessments, interventions and personalised learning plans, working with outside professionals when needed. Partners include the Specialist Education Service Team, speech and language therapy, occupational therapists and the Hearing and Visual Impairments Team.
Parents can begin with their child's class teacher and request a further meeting through the office. The school values parents' involvement in SEND support, so these conversations form part of planning provision rather than sitting apart from it.
Wellbeing support is open across the school and overseen by the Inclusion Team. Individual support requires consultation with parents or carers and written consent. Zones of Regulation helps children recognise emotions and practise ways to become calm, giving families a named approach they can also use at home.
Attending Bees does not guarantee a Reception place at Cliff Lane. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions route by the applicable deadline. Treat the nursery choice and the Reception application as separate decisions, even though the provision belongs to the same school.
Morning, afternoon and all-day options allow families to choose between a shorter session and a longer nursery day. Enquiries and school tours are arranged through the administration team at admin@clifflaneprimary.co.uk or 01473 251604; tours are led by a senior member of staff.
For Forest School, children need covered arms and legs, suitable footwear and clothes that can get muddy. Keep wellies and spare clothing at school. Some waterproof jackets and trousers are available to borrow if children do not own them.
