Learning to respect others starts in Nursery at Heath, giving its youngest children an introduction to the school's social expectations as well as classroom learning. The provision caters for children aged three and forms part of Heath Primary School on Bell Lane in Kesgrave. At the May 2023 inspection, both part-time and full-time places were offered. Ask the school about current booking patterns.
At the Ofsted inspection on 16 and 17 May 2023, early years provision was graded Good. That judgement covers the school's early years provision rather than a separately inspected nursery.
Morning and afternoon sessions give the nursery day a clear shape. Morning collection is at 11:30am; the afternoon finishes at 3:30pm. Each has a flexible window for drop-off, allowing families some room around the start of their child's session.
Heath calls its curriculum approach Learning for Life and encourages exploration and creativity from children's earliest days. The school aims to develop independence, cooperation and problem-solving. For parents, the emphasis is on how children approach learning alongside what they learn.
Outdoor learning has concrete spaces to draw on: the school grounds contain a garden, a pond equipped with a dipping platform and a wooded Forest Schools area. Outdoor learning takes place regularly across the school, supported by two teaching assistants dedicated to it. These are school facilities, rather than a description of a separate nursery playground.
Curriculum precision. In May 2023, some early years subjects needed clearer decisions about the knowledge, vocabulary and skills children should retain. Gaps in learning resulted. Families should weigh that specific concern alongside the Good early years judgement.
Respect is taught from the nursery stage. In May 2023, this was an explicit starting point for the school's work on children's understanding of others, making social learning part of the nursery's purpose.
For concerns about learning or development, the class teacher is the school's suggested first contact. SEND identification forms part of its monitoring of children's progress, and the school includes children with SEND in activities alongside their peers. Families can also contact the SEND coordinator directly at sendco@heathkesgrave.suffolk.sch.uk.
The wider school pastoral team includes family support officers and a pastoral teaching assistant. Its aims include helping families through difficulties and supporting children's emotional and social skills. Parents are encouraged to share concerns so the team can respond or help them reach other services.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process; Suffolk County Council handles school admissions, including selection and oversubscription.
Treat the two decisions separately: choosing this nursery concerns your child's early experience, while obtaining a Reception place requires another application. The school also has a distinct nursery admissions policy.
Morning drop-off runs from 8:30am to 8:45am, with afternoon drop-off between 12:30pm and 12:45pm. Parents collect from the Nursery entrance at the end of each session. These nursery arrangements matter when planning work and journeys around collection.

Car access. The school asks drivers to park at Twelve Acre Approach, Little Tesco or the Bell Public House car parks, each a five-minute walk away, to ease congestion near the layby. Disabled badge holders can arrange parking within the grounds in advance. Allow for that walk when planning nursery drop-off.
