Once a weekly market town serving a farming district in Surrey, Leatherhead has reinvented itself twice: first as a post-war manufacturing base for firms including Goblin and Ronson, and later as a business park cluster drawing multinational service companies to its former industrial sites along the River Mole. Leatherhead itself carries strong school-competitive demand across the Mole Valley, while West Horsley is among the most sought-after pockets for families pursuing state primary places. Great Bookham, Effingham, and Little Bookham extend the family-oriented residential belt westward into the Surrey countryside. Trains from Leatherhead station run to London Waterloo in around forty minutes on the South Western route.
