Outdoor learning is part of the daily rhythm at Kippax North: Foundation Stage children have their own outdoor area, with flexible breaks and learning outside each day. This is the school's own 26-place nursery on Brexdale Avenue in Kippax, Leeds. Children can join from the term after their third birthday, with September, January and April intakes.
In June 2024, Ofsted graded the school's early years provision Good. That judgement covers early years within the school, rather than a separately inspected nursery.
The Early Years Foundation Stage gives learning a practical shape here. Across early years in June 2024, children explored the past through their local area, giving them a starting point for understanding the order of events. Mathematics involved making maps of a walk and using words to explain position. These are concrete ways to connect ideas with children's experiences.
Language also had a clear role. Adults introduced challenging vocabulary, and children used it while discussing stories they had invented. Conversation became a way to practise new words and express ideas. Children also returned to earlier learning, giving them further opportunities to practise mathematical understanding.
Much of the Foundation Stage's learning takes place in its own outdoor area every day. Breaks can move with the children's activities rather than following a fixed playtime slot. The school's approach is to use the outdoors in different weather conditions whenever it is safe, so waterproof clothing and suitable boots have a practical purpose.
Relationships support participation. In June 2024, early years children worked cooperatively, sustained their attention on tasks and developed positive connections with others. For a young child, that means learning involves both completing an activity and working alongside other children.
The Foundation Stage leader also has a designated safeguarding role. Across the school, staff and governors receive recurring child protection training.
For children with additional needs, the school's support arrangements include individual or group help and regular reviews by the SENDCo. The Brigshaw Guidance and Support team can provide family support or counselling where needed. Parents can raise concerns with their child's class teacher, giving families a direct starting point for discussing progress or wellbeing. School buildings are accessible to people with physical disabilities. Food brought into school must respect its nut-free rule.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place at Kippax North. Families must make a separate application through their home local authority, following the normal application deadline. Leeds residents apply through Leeds City Council; families living elsewhere apply through their own council.
For September 2026 entry, the application deadline was 15 January 2026. That cycle is now past. Treat choosing the nursery and applying for Reception as two separate decisions.
Two 15-hour patterns divide the week: Monday and Tuesday with Wednesday morning ending at noon, or Wednesday afternoon starting at 12.30pm with Thursday and Friday. The 30-hour pattern runs Monday to Thursday and finishes at noon on Friday. These fixed combinations make the weekly attendance pattern an important part of the choice.
Additional paid half-day attendance can be arranged on a termly basis only when space permits. Contact the school for current charges. Nursery applications and enquiries go through the school office, which also arranges appointments to look around the school.
Travel and collection. Brexdale Avenue and Leeds Road are busy around drop-off and collection. The pedestrian entrance accommodates cyclists and scooter users, with cycle sheds and scooter storage on site. The car park is reserved for staff and visitors, so families travelling by car need to plan parking carefully.
Children are eligible from the term after their third birthday. Intakes take place in September, January and April.
There are two 15-hour patterns, covering either the beginning or end of the week, and a 30-hour pattern covering Monday to Thursday plus Friday morning until noon.
