Schools in Leeds

Yorkshire's largest city and the economic capital of the north's most populous county, Leeds is built along the River Aire in the eastern foothills of the Pennines, spreading across more than 550 square kilometres of West Yorkshire. A small manorial borough in the thirteenth century and a wool-trading centre by the sixteenth, it received its Royal City Charter in 1626 and grew into one of the great mill cities of the Industrial Revolution; several surviving Victorian arcades, including Kirkgate Market, mark that chapter in the city centre today. Around 536,000 people live in the metropolitan borough.

Leeds station anchors the city's rail connections, with East Coast Main Line services running north to Edinburgh and south, while Cross Country and TransPennine Express routes link directly to Manchester, Liverpool, and Newcastle. The school-competitive belt in north Leeds runs through Alwoodley, the city's cross-phase leader for both secondary and sixth-form catchments, and into Roundhay, long sought-after by families for state school places. Wigton Moor, Horsforth, and Kirkstall extend the picture of residential demand across the wider city.
