Nursery at Lawns Park Primary School

Bug hunts, minibeast collages and books give Lawns Park’s Foundation Stage its character. Nursery children join the school in Old Farnley from the term following their third birthday, with their learning and family updates brought together on the Foundation Stage class page. This is the school’s own nursery provision on Chapel Lane.
The January 2025 inspection described eager early-years learners who related well to adults and other children. Adults developed vocabulary and linked new activities with earlier learning, helping children build knowledge rather than treating each activity as an isolated task.
The Foundation Stage’s Summer 2 theme for 2026, Marvellous Minibeasts, connected outdoor exploration with language, art and reading. Children were to search for bugs around school, describe their discoveries and identify the creatures they found. New scientific words gave them language for what they observed. Minibeast collages inspired by the artwork The Snail brought the same theme into creative work.
Information texts, poems and stories accompanied that topic. It is a concrete example of how Foundation Stage learning connects exploring the world, speaking and creating. Subject planners give parents the learning planned for each week, making it easier to continue conversations at home.
Reading has a physical home, too: each classroom has a book corner with books to borrow. Nursery book exchanges follow attendance patterns, with Monday changes for full-time children and those attending Monday and Tuesday, and Thursday changes for Wednesday-to-Friday attendees. Story Corner invites Foundation Stage families into the library for a teacher-led story at the end of the day.
Home experiences can become part of classroom conversation. Parents can send memories and achievements to F1@lawnspark.org.uk for children to share with staff and friends. That gives families a direct way to contribute to nursery life.
Practical care includes bringing spare clothing in a drawstring bag and a clear bottle containing plain water. Children taking a packed lunch must avoid nuts; a school meal is the alternative described on the class page. Clothing should suit the weather, and manageable fasteners help children practise independence.
For additional needs, the school’s curriculum policy places responsibility on every teacher to adapt learning for children with SEND. Its SEND page also provides parent guides covering communication needs, attention and co-regulation. These offer families specific starting points for understanding support.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through their home local authority, following the normal route and deadline for their child’s entry year. Leeds residents use www.leeds.gov.uk/apply.
For the September 2026 intake, the application deadline was 15 January 2026. That cycle is now past. Keep the Reception application separate from the nursery arrangements: accepting a nursery place does not replace it.
F1’s collection window is 3:00–3:15pm, while Foundation Stage starts between 8:30 and 8:45am, with doors closing at 8:45am. The class page refers to full-time attendance and Monday/Tuesday or Wednesday-to-Friday patterns. Before a child starts, the nursery team contacts families to discuss preferences and availability.
To apply, email the nursery application form to info@lawnspark.org.uk. Uniform is optional for F1, so weather-appropriate clothes and accessible fasteners can guide everyday choices.
Parking. Space in the school car park is limited, although there are three marked accessible bays. Allow for parking outside the grounds and keep Chapel Lane entrances and the yellow zig-zag markings clear.
Children can start in the term after their third birthday. Families can register their interest before then.
Complete the nursery application form and email it to info@lawnspark.org.uk. The team will contact you before your child starts to discuss availability and preferences.
