Nursery at Morley Victoria Primary School

Morning, afternoon or full day: Morley Victoria’s nursery gives families three ways to fit early education into their day. It forms part of Morley Victoria Primary School on Victoria Road in Morley, Leeds, and has 78 part-time nursery places. That is a nursery capacity, rather than the number of children attending any one session.
A morning session runs from 8.45am to 11.45am; afternoons start at 12.15pm and finish at 3.15pm. The full-day option spans 8.45am to 3.15pm. For families choosing between shorter sessions and a longer day, those collection times make the practical difference clear.
First aid is one concrete part of children’s learning, with training extending from Nursery through the school. Before starting, children are also invited to a short stay-and-play session. This introduces the nursery experience while giving parents a chance to learn about what happens there.
Settling begins with contact at home. Staff arrange a home visit to get to know the family, alongside the introductory play session. Parents are encouraged to discuss developmental concerns with staff, so that information about a child’s needs can shape their care from the start. Families should also tell the team if their child has special educational needs or is looked after or previously looked after.
Beyond the nursery team, the school has an Inclusion Team working alongside classroom staff. Its work includes support for families experiencing difficulties, with additional help sought through The Morley Cluster where needed. Cluster Support Services, working within the Morley Primary Partnership, include access to speech and language therapy, Lego therapy and Art therapy. These are school support routes, rather than a promise of a particular intervention for each nursery child.
Physical accessibility deserves attention too. Across the school, ramps provide access to buildings, while accessible toilets and care suites support children who need them. Families of children with disabilities are invited to visit and discuss how the building meets their child’s needs.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through their home local authority; Leeds residents apply through Leeds City Council at www.leeds.gov.uk/apply. Treat choosing the nursery and applying for Reception as two separate decisions. A nursery place should never be taken as confirmation of the later school place.
Both 15-hour and 30-hour nursery places are offered. Claiming the 30 hours of free childcare requires a 30-hour code, with eligibility advice available through the school’s Business Manager. The school office handles requests to join the nursery waiting list and can arrange an appointment to look around: call 0113 2535253.
Collection changes. Tell staff if you are delayed or someone different will collect your child. The school checks unfamiliar collectors, making advance communication useful for both families and staff. Requests to speak with a member of staff should go through the office, which can find the appropriate person.
