At a Glance

Play dough, paint and outdoor climbing give Park Spring’s early years provision a practical character. The nursery belongs to Park Spring Primary School on Swinnow Lane in Leeds, with 52 places offered each year. Children become eligible in the half term after their third birthday. If all sessions are full then, they must wait until September to start.

Care and curriculum need separate consideration here. Ofsted’s June 2026 judgement for early years was Needs attention, covering the school’s early years provision rather than giving the nursery a separate grade. Familiar routines and purposeful adult interaction sit alongside weaknesses in how learning is planned.

The Nursery Day

The core education day runs from 9am to 3pm. Families using 15 hours can express a preference for the beginning or end of the week, each combining two days with part of Wednesday. A limited number of 30-hour places allow attendance across the week for families with the qualifying code.

Learning follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Here, its practical expression includes conversation during play, developing hand control and learning to manage physical challenges. Across early years, adults use carefully chosen language while supporting play. Paint, scissors and play dough help children practise small movements; outdoor exploration gives them opportunities to climb and balance. These activities connect physical development with everyday learning.

The indoor environment also has practical support for children who need it. The school’s January 2026 SEND information describes spaces in classrooms where children can pause and regulate their emotions. Classroom access is step-free, with a lift, accessible toilets and a care suite in the school.

Curriculum planning. In June 2026, the early years curriculum did not set out learning clearly enough across its different areas. Activities and teaching consequently did not consistently match individual needs, and early writing was a weakness. Listening and responding to instructions also needed attention. Families should weigh the opportunities for play against these weaknesses in the foundations for later learning.

Care and Support

Settling begins before the first session. The nursery team contacts families around the child’s third birthday to organise a home visit and discuss introductory visits. A staggered start with small groups gives children a gradual introduction; additional-needs transition meetings can include parents and outside professionals.

Across early years in June 2026, staff understood children and their families, and established morning routines helped children settle. Children felt secure and gained independence during play. Adults generally supported emotional development and relationships well, giving reassurance alongside the curriculum concerns.

Communication has routes for each attendance group: nbeginning@parkspringprimary.co.uk and nend@parkspringprimary.co.uk. For SEND, Individual Provision Maps describe a child’s support and are updated at three points during the year, with parental review. This gives families specific provision to discuss with the teaching team.

Lunch can be a school meal or a healthy packed lunch. SchoolGrid orders must be placed at least 24 hours ahead. The menu accounts for allergies, and families must supply medical evidence of an allergy to the office. If a child will not eat the scheduled meal, families need to send a packed lunch because the kitchen does not provide a replacement dish.

Moving On to Reception

Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through their home local authority by the normal application deadline. For Leeds residents, the route is www.leeds.gov.uk/apply; Leeds City Council is the school’s admission authority.

Transition support is a separate matter. Teachers pass class information, including SEND details, to the next teacher at the end of the year. Transition booklets can be prepared where needed. That continuity helps adults understand a child’s needs, but it does not secure admission.

Practical Information

Session planning. The nursery admissions page gives a 9am to 3pm education day alongside beginning- and end-of-week booking patterns with different clock times. Confirm the booked hours before arranging collection. Preferences depend on capacity, and allocation is in birth order.

Funded provision comprises 15 hours from the term after a child turns three, with limited 30-hour places for eligible code holders. Nursery classroom wraparound and Breakfast Club and After School Club carry separate charges. Club places are limited by staffing ratios; ask the office for current charges and reservations.

For nursery enquiries or a tour, contact admissions@parkspringprimary.co.uk. The office also takes wraparound enquiries on 0113 2552526. The school uniform policy applies to all children, and sizes can be tried at the office before ordering.
