Outdoor exploration and early conversation give Woodlesford’s nursery its character. This provision for three- and four-year-olds belongs to Woodlesford Primary School on Church Street in Leeds. Its class is named Acorn, placing the nursery within the school’s class structure.
Ofsted rated the school’s early years provision Outstanding following the inspection on 17 and 18 May 2023. That judgement covers early years across the school; it is not a separate nursery rating. The nursery-specific starting points are clear: speaking, listening and learning familiar routines form the foundations for later learning.
Language starts early here. Phonics begins in Nursery with work on listening and speaking, giving children a starting point for learning to read. The early years curriculum builds subject knowledge from children’s nursery starting points, so learning develops from what each child already knows.
Indoor activities sit alongside outdoor learning. In May 2023, children in early years used a substantial outdoor area designed for practical exploration, and activities in both spaces were carefully organised. Adults encouraged children to explore their ideas. For parents, the useful combination is space to investigate and adult conversation that helps children take their thinking further.
Independence also has a place in the day. Children understood routines introduced in Nursery and could use the early years provision confidently, including children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Familiar routines give children a way to participate and make choices as they learn.
Positive exchanges between adults and children were a strength of early years in May 2023. Staff encouraged exploration, while children with SEND participated independently. These findings connect inclusion with children’s everyday experience of the learning spaces.
For conversations about additional needs, the school has a SEND coordinator contact at sendco@woodlesford.leeds.sch.uk. Nursery meals are offered through the school meal service. Refer to the school for current meal charges.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions route and meet the applicable deadline. Treat that application as a separate decision from choosing the nursery.
The educational preparation is distinct from admission. Speaking and listening work, growing independence and routines introduced in Nursery support children’s next stage of learning. Familiarity with school life should not be treated as an entitlement to a place.
The nursery day starts at 8.55am and finishes at 3.30pm. General enquiries can go to the school office on 0113 3934416 or info@woodlesford.leeds.sch.uk.
Travel and belongings. Parking space at school is limited, so allow for that when planning journeys. Bike and scooter storage is provided at the early years entrance. The school asks families to label clothing and footwear and keep bags reasonably small because cloakroom space is tight.
Wraparound care. Woody Fun Club serves children from Reception onwards, through Year 6. Its age restriction matters for families planning childcare around a nursery day.
The nursery is for three- and four-year-old children.
Nursery starts at 8.55am and finishes at 3.30pm.
No. Families must apply separately for Reception through the normal admissions process.
At the inspection on 17 and 18 May 2023, the school’s early years provision was rated Outstanding. This was an early years judgement within the school inspection, not a separate nursery rating.
Woody Fun Club’s stated age range runs from Reception to Year 6, so it does not cover nursery children.
