Nursery at New Park Primary School

Last reviewed: October 2026 · Inspection data and key information above update regularly, however, this review below is refreshed bi-annually and may not reflect recent changes. Contact the nursery directly to confirm current arrangements. If you spot anything outdated or inaccurate, please let us know.

At a Glance

Play with a purpose shapes nursery learning at New Park: children choose activities as well as taking part in teaching led by adults, with learning indoors and outside. This is the nursery within New Park Primary School on Boaler Street, Liverpool, rather than a separate childcare setting.

Ofsted judged the school's early years provision Good at the inspection on 11 and 12 March 2025. That judgement covers early years across the school; it is not a separate nursery rating.

The Nursery Day

Children have room to follow their interests. Planned activities sit alongside play they initiate themselves, giving the day a mixture of adult direction and personal choice. Both indoor and outdoor provision are used for learning, so the nursery experience extends beyond classroom activities.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) provides the framework. Its seven learning areas bring together language, physical development and social and emotional learning with literacy, mathematics, understanding the world and creative expression. For parents, that means learning encompasses speaking and listening, relationships and movement as well as early reading and number skills.

Counting, exploring shapes and comparing measures form part of mathematics. Creative work includes role-play, dance, music and experimenting with materials, while exploration of people, places and technology helps children make sense of their surroundings. These activities give children different ways to express ideas and practise emerging skills.

Stories and rhymes were a feature of early years learning in March 2025, helping children develop an interest in books. The school aims to build independence and enthusiasm by taking account of children's starting points and interests. Progress is checked across the EYFS learning areas, allowing teaching to respond to children's development.

Care and Support

Support for additional needs follows the school's Graduated Approach, using a Plan, Do, Review cycle. Staff identify what a child needs, introduce support and then reassess it. This gives families a process for discussing adjustments as their child's needs change. The Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator can be contacted through the school office.

Safeguarding is managed through a designated lead and deputy leads. In March 2025, the school's safeguarding arrangements were effective, but recording and communication of concerns were inconsistent. Some records lacked important detail, and behaviour records also needed greater clarity. For families, clear communication about concerns and the action taken remains an important consideration.

Moving On to Reception

Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet the applicable deadline. For entry in 2026, nursery attendance itself conferred no priority: the criteria covered looked-after and previously looked-after children, siblings, qualifying children of staff and distance.

Transition and admission are different matters. The school aims to support the move between nursery and Reception through communication and collaboration, helping learning continue into the next stage. That does not secure an offer of a place.

Practical Information

Nursery applications go directly to the school office. An admissions officer then contacts parents to confirm a place and give a start date, providing a clear point of contact before attendance begins.

School tours take place on Tuesdays at 9.15am, with advance contact encouraged; alternative times can also be arranged. Call 0151 263 4447 to enquire or arrange a visit. The office answers calls between 7.30am and 4.30pm, Monday to Friday. Email is the preferred contact during school holidays.
