Nursery at Our Lady Immaculate Catholic Primary School

Rhymes, poems and books give this nursery its clearest character: communication comes first. Our Lady Immaculate Catholic Primary School in Everton includes provision for two-year-olds, with morning and afternoon nursery sessions. It is an early start within a Catholic primary school, rather than a separate nursery setting.
Ofsted graded the school's early years provision Good following its inspection on 11 and 12 October 2023. That judgement covers early years within the school; it is not a separate nursery rating.
Language gives the learning its direction. In October 2023, early years children encountered poetry, rhymes and books, with communication central to their activities. These experiences prepare children for later phonics learning: listening and talking have a clear purpose before formal reading begins.
Within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), children develop communication and language through rhymes, books and poems, preparing them for later phonics learning. The framework also guides the identification of additional needs and support for participation. The school's early years SEND policy connects children's development with ongoing observation and review, so support can respond to emerging difficulties.
Emotional learning has a named approach too. In its April 2025 inclusion update, the school described early years children using peer massage through the Massage in Schools Programme (MISP) to practise self-regulation. This adds a practical activity for learning about feelings and interacting with peers.
Children settled promptly in early years in October 2023, with adults helping them sustain attention during learning. For parents, that links the first adjustment to nursery with the next step: becoming ready to take part.
Additional support has an early years coordinator as well as the school SENCO. The early years policy requires staff to respond to developmental concerns raised by parents and to track children's progress. Its assess, plan, do, review cycle means agreeing support, putting it into practice and checking its effect, rather than leaving an initial plan unchanged.
Families can contact the SEND team at send@oliprimaryschool.co.uk. Speech and Language Therapy and SENISS are among the school's external partners. Physical access also matters: the inclusion policy describes classroom doorways wide enough for wheelchairs and accessible designated entrances, while acknowledging the limits of the buildings.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. The 2027–2028 admission arrangements require a separate application to the family's home local authority, and nursery attendance is not an oversubscription priority.
For September 2027 entry, the application deadline is 15 January 2027. Families applying under faith criteria 2 to 6 should also return the Supplementary Information Form to the school by that date, with supporting documents. Treat the Reception application as a separate task even while your child attends nursery.
Morning nursery runs from 8.30am to 11.30am; afternoon nursery runs from 12.15pm to 3.15pm. The Duke Street gates are the nursery's designated access point, giving families a specific entrance to use for both sessions.
Collection access begins at 11.25am for the morning session and 3.10pm for the afternoon. Parents with children in the main school may choose an 8.45am nursery start. This option helps coordinate siblings' starts while keeping the usual morning session times clear.
