Nursery at St Teresa of Lisieux Catholic Primary Academy

Own clothes and optional uniform give this nursery a practical, informal starting point. Children can wear a school sweatshirt with jogging trousers, with easy dressing and toileting in mind. The nursery belongs to St Teresa of Lisieux Catholic Primary Academy on Utting Avenue East in Norris Green, Liverpool, within a Catholic primary school.
There is an important educational reservation. Ofsted judged the school's early years provision Requires improvement at its inspection on 25 and 26 March 2025. That judgement covers early years within the school; it is not a separate nursery rating. The detail matters more than the label: early reading had a secure starting point, while practice and early writing needed attention.
Early reading is the clearest educational strength identified in March 2025. Children in early years were developing the phonics knowledge needed to read words. For parents, this means the beginnings of reading had a sound foundation, even though the wider early years judgement required improvement.
Practice and consolidation. In March 2025, early years children did not get enough routine opportunities to revisit learning and make it stick. Mathematics was among the subjects where learning fell short. Repetition matters here: a child needs opportunities to use a new skill again, rather than simply encounter it once.
Early writing. Support for forming letters correctly and making writing readable was insufficient in early years in March 2025. This is a specific concern for families considering the nursery, because the beginnings of writing need careful guidance as well as opportunities to practise.
ALIVE is the school's approach to mental health and wellbeing. Its expectations include safe play, thoughtful interaction and recognising feelings. These are useful ideas for young children learning to share space and communicate with others, although they describe the school's approach rather than a nursery-specific care routine.
For additional needs, the first contact is the child's teacher. If concerns continue, the office can arrange a telephone consultation or a meeting with the SENCO. The SENCO works with families and outside agencies, and with EMTAS for children and parents using an additional language. That gives families a clear route for raising concerns about learning or emotional support.
SEND assessment and support. At the inspection on 25 and 26 March 2025, identification and support for pupils' SEND were inconsistent across the school. This made it harder for teachers to choose suitable teaching strategies. Families needing additional support should discuss how their child's needs will be assessed and how support will be reviewed.
Operation Encompass links the school with Merseyside Police after domestic abuse incidents involving children. A designated Key Adult receives information so that support can respond to the child's circumstances.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions route and meet the deadline for their child's entry year.
The route is online through Liverpool Local Authority. For September 2025 entry, the application deadline was 15 January 2025. That was a past admissions cycle, not a deadline for a child joining now. Treat choosing the nursery and applying for Reception as separate decisions.
The school's early years opening hours are 8:45am to 3:10pm. These are early years hours, rather than a confirmed nursery booking pattern.
Uniform is optional for nursery children. Elasticated jogging trousers make toilet trips easier to manage; Velcro footwear avoids loose laces. For enquiries, contact the school office on 0151 226 5018 or email office@stl.allsaintsmat.org.
