Acorn and Conker give Bannockburn's nursery its own identity within a school spread across two sites. Nursery children attend Manor Way on Church Manor Way, SE2 0HY. The provision has 78 places, divided between morning, afternoon and full-time attendance, with 26 places in each pattern. That gives families a choice between a shorter session and a longer nursery day.
Entry is for children aged three before 31 August in the year they join; the nursery application route excludes children older than four on that date. In June 2025, Ofsted graded the school's early years provision Outstanding. This judgement covers early years within the school, rather than a separately inspected nursery.
Learning to concentrate and communicate is a clear thread through the early years day. At the June 2025 inspection, children sustained their attention and took part in activities independently, while staff helped them make substantial gains in language and communication. For parents, the practical significance is independence: children learn to stay involved in an activity rather than depend on continual adult direction.
Early reading also has a specific place in the early years foundation stage (EYFS). Children begin joining sounds together to read words, including words they have not encountered before. This gives the learning a concrete purpose: using sounds to work out what a word says.
Forest School has included a phonics activity for nursery children, taking work with sounds into an outdoor learning context. Acorn and Conker are the nursery classes, and a Nursery Farm Shop activity featured in January 2026. These named examples give the provision more character than a general promise of learning through activities.
The nursery staffing structure includes a team leader who teaches Conker, alongside nursery support staff. For additional needs, a special educational needs coordinator has responsibility for EYFS and Key Stage 1. Families therefore have an identified role to approach about early years inclusion, alongside the nursery team.
Physical access. The school is not fully accessible for children with disabilities. Families whose child needs adaptations should make accessibility part of their decision about the Manor Way setting.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal Royal Borough of Greenwich route and meet the deadline for their child's intake.
For the September 2026 intake, the application deadline was 15 January 2026, with applications made online through Royal Greenwich. That cycle is now past. Nursery is at Manor Way, while Reception is at the High Street site on Plumstead High Street, SE18 1HE. Moving on therefore involves a change of site as well as a separate admissions process.
Morning attendance runs from 9am to noon, Monday to Friday. Afternoon sessions run from 12.30pm to 3.30pm; the full-time day runs from 9am to 3.30pm. These are distinct attendance patterns, so families can compare the shorter sessions with the full-time finish when planning childcare.
Full-time nursery attendance carries charges. Contact the school for current charges. Nursery enquiries begin with the nursery application form, and the main intake is in September. Offers for that intake are made in the last week of April; applicants may also be contacted if places become free during the school year.
