Nursery at Saint Mary Magdalene Church of England All Through School
Last reviewed: October 2026 · Inspection data and key information above update regularly, however, this review below is refreshed bi-annually and may not reflect recent changes. Contact the nursery directly to confirm current arrangements. If you spot anything outdated or inaccurate, please let us know.
Sharing, conversation and learning to concentrate give this nursery its clearest character. Saint Mary Magdalene’s early years provision sits within a Church of England all-through school whose age range begins at three. This review focuses on that nursery stage, rather than the education of older pupils.
Kingsman Street is the address of the Woolwich primary campus. The Christian context matters for families choosing it: applications are welcomed across the community, with parents expected to respect the school’s religious ethos. That expectation concerns the school community, rather than requiring every applicant to seek a church place.
Communication is a central part of the early years curriculum. In November 2023, staff supported children’s language development, giving learning to express themselves a clear place in their early education. For a parent, this is a useful emphasis: a child’s day involves developing how they communicate, alongside learning how to participate with other children.
Social learning has concrete substance here. Ofsted’s inspection on 1 and 2 November 2023 found that early years children cooperated over sharing and treated one another respectfully. These are practical foundations for taking part in group activities and managing time alongside other children.
Concentration is another part of the picture. Children in early years sustained attention during activities and managed their behaviour with considerable self-control. Together, those findings describe children learning both to engage with an activity and to handle the social demands around it. They give parents something more specific to consider than a general promise of school readiness.
The early years evidence links care with communication and relationships. Children’s respectful behaviour towards each other, alongside staff support for language, makes expressing needs and getting along with peers relevant parts of the experience.
For families, those findings provide a useful view of the social side of nursery life. They concern how children participate together, as well as how they concentrate individually, and belong to November 2023 rather than a separate nursery inspection grade.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through the normal school admissions process and meet the deadline for their child’s entry year. Choosing the nursery and applying for Reception are distinct decisions.
The application route uses the local authority’s Common Application Form, completed through eAdmissions. Families living outside the borough apply through their own local authority. This means the nursery choice should sit alongside planning for the later school application.
A church-place application also requires the school’s Supplementary Information Form, returned to the school. Community-place applicants do not need that additional form. The distinction matters when preparing an application: the extra paperwork depends on the type of place sought, rather than simply on being interested in this Church of England school.

Appointments to visit the school are invited. The school describes these visits as opportunities to speak with staff, meet children and see the learning spaces. For a family considering the nursery, a school visit provides a practical next step in getting to know the campus and its Christian context.
