At a Glance

At the June 2024 inspection, nursery garden resources and early years outings to meet ambulance drivers gave children experiences beyond the classroom. This nursery sits within Bobov Primary Boys School, an independent school for Orthodox Jewish boys on Egerton Road in Stamford Hill. Its provision includes children aged two.

Care and education need separate consideration here. At the inspection of 4 to 6 June 2024, Ofsted judged early years provision Inadequate, while finding that children settled successfully and received very good care. That judgement covers the school’s early years provision; it is not a separate nursery rating.

The later monitoring visit on 15 January 2026 found that the school still failed some of the independent school standards checked. This is a school-wide regulatory concern for families considering its nursery. The Department for Education had also rejected the school’s required action plan as unsuitable.

The Nursery Day

In June 2024, the garden provided an outdoor setting for nursery learning. Children had access to learning resources there as well as elsewhere in the nursery. That gave their learning a physical dimension beyond classroom activities, with opportunities to explore materials outdoors.

Local outings added another kind of experience at the June 2024 inspection. Early years children visited the post office and met ambulance drivers. These were concrete encounters with places and people in their surrounding area, giving families dated examples of learning beyond the school premises.

The curriculum needs closer scrutiny. In June 2024, planning across early years did not define learning goals and their sequence precisely enough. Delivery differed between classes, and some learning experiences lacked sufficient breadth or purpose. For parents, access to resources and outings needs to be considered alongside how activities build children’s knowledge.

By January 2026, the school had bought additional books for early years children. This is a specific resource development, rather than a new graded judgement on nursery teaching.

Care and Support

Settling was a positive feature in June 2024: early years children became comfortable in the setting and were cared for very well. This matters for families weighing the emotional demands of starting nursery, even alongside the concerns about learning.

Support for special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) also had clear strengths. Children in early years could receive specialist help from trained school staff. Parents and outside professionals worked with the school to agree individual targets and revisit them. Support therefore included both specialist input and a process for reviewing what each child was working towards.

Moving On to Reception

Attending this nursery does not guarantee a place in the school’s Reception. Nursery admission and Reception admission are separate processes: families must apply again for Reception through the normal application route and meet the applicable deadline.

Treat the nursery decision as a choice about the early years experience itself. Familiarity with the school should not be treated as an admission entitlement.

Practical Information

The school’s address is 87-90 Egerton Road, London, N16 6UE, in Stamford Hill. For nursery enquiries, telephone 020 8809 1025. The school contact email is admin@bobovprimary.co.uk.

Regulatory position. In January 2026, some checked school standards remained unmet. Families should weigh that position alongside the garden learning, local outings and strengths in care and SEND support recorded in June 2024.
