A long nursery day and a clear sound-and-story foundation define the early-years offer at Rokesly. The nursery takes children from the term after their third birthday, with entry points in September, January and April when places remain. It forms the youngest part of the infant school on Hermiston Avenue rather than operating as a separately registered provider.
Families can choose a morning place or, where eligible, a full school-day pattern. Extended care stretches the available day beyond those core sessions. This gives working families useful continuity on one school site, while keeping the nursery timetable term-time only.
The core morning runs from 9am to midday, Monday to Friday. The longer funded pattern runs from 9am to 3pm across all five weekdays. Breakfast care begins at 8am and after-school care continues until 5.30pm, so the published options can cover a substantial working day. Lunch is included for children using the afternoon provision, while breakfast and supper accompany the relevant extended sessions.
Learning starts with talk, sound and participation. Nursery children listen to environmental sounds and join familiar rhymes, stories and songs, building the listening habits they will later use in phonics. Shape language is taught deliberately too: children learn the names and features of common shapes, giving everyday play and discussion a mathematical vocabulary.
The December 2024 inspection found children confident and eager to try new activities. Staff encouraged independence, resilience and curiosity. That points to a day designed around children making choices, sustaining attention and sharing ideas, rather than simply rehearsing school routines.
Settling is a genuine strength in the inspection evidence. Established routines helped children settle quickly and form positive relationships with adults and one another. For a new three-year-old, that predictable rhythm matters: confidence grows before adults ask for longer concentration or unfamiliar learning.
Kindness is taught from the start of Nursery through simple rules and daily expectations. Children were described as polite, while the early-years group showed willingness to contribute ideas. The school also publishes a designated safeguarding team structure and says it works with families and outside agencies when support is needed.
Children with SEND are included in the school's high expectations. The report describes support for younger children who fall behind in early reading, including children with SEND. Families needing specific adjustments should discuss the child's needs, care routines and planned support directly with the school before accepting a place.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the local authority admissions process by the published deadline; the school's admissions page directs parents to Haringey's admissions information and e-Admissions.
