Nursery at Grove Park Primary School

Twenty-six places, five mornings and a purpose-built nursery classroom give Grove Park’s provision a clear shape. This is the school’s own nursery in Chiswick, for children joining in the September before their fourth birthday. The nursery opened in 1985, giving it a distinct physical base within the primary school.
Ofsted graded the school’s early years provision Outstanding following its inspection on 1 and 2 October 2024. That judgement covers early years within the school; it is not a separate nursery rating.
The morning runs from 8.40am until noon, Monday to Friday. For families, the practical rhythm is straightforward: a repeated morning session, with the afternoon left for other arrangements.
Language and communication are a strong feature of early years teaching. In October 2024, children received substantial adult help to develop these skills and flourished in an environment with clear learning purpose. This gives parents a useful picture of the emphasis: helping young children communicate is a central part of their learning.
Grove Park’s own phonics programme places Nursery at Phase 1. Alongside this, Jigsaw: The Mindful approach introduces personal, social and emotional learning in ways adapted to children’s ages. Its themes include Healthy Me and Celebrating Difference. For a nursery child, this brings learning about feelings, relationships and other people alongside the beginnings of phonics.
The early years topic All About Me gives children opportunities to explain what makes them distinctive and hear about other children’s cultures and beliefs. Listening matters as much as talking. The wider school grounds include an allotment, a wildlife area and a pond, with oak trees around the site; these are school features rather than a description of a nursery-only garden.
Nursery staffing includes a class teacher and a teaching assistant. At leadership level, responsibility for early years sits alongside SENCO and inclusion responsibilities. That connects the nursery’s leadership with the school’s support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities.
Grove Park is a mainstream school rather than a specialist setting. Families can contact the SENCO through senco@grovepark.hounslow.sch.uk. This provides a direct route for discussing additional needs.
For conversations with staff, the school advises booking an appointment when an issue needs more than a few minutes. Its Parents’ Forum also gives families a way to raise broader questions, while individual discussions remain separate. The distinction is useful: a child’s personal concern belongs in a direct conversation, while a year-group issue can go to the forum.
A nursery place does not guarantee admission to Grove Park’s Reception class, or a place for a sibling. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process.
For the September 2026 intake, applications used eAdmissions and closed on 15 January 2026. That cycle is now past. Hounslow handles admissions and appeals; families living outside the borough apply through their own council. Where applications exceed places, allocation follows Hounslow’s oversubscription criteria. Choosing the nursery therefore requires a separate decision from applying for Reception.
Morning-only provision. The nursery has places for five weekday mornings, with sessions ending at noon. Grove Park does not offer the 30-hour Nursery option, so this provision needs to fit around a family’s afternoon childcare arrangements.
Children qualify for a free part-time place from the September before their fourth birthday. Nursery enquiries and applications go directly to the school. The application form can be requested by email and returned to office@grovepark.hounslow.sch.uk, with post also accepted where necessary.
