Nursery at Hugh Myddelton Primary School

A 2+ Centre alongside a nursery team gives Hugh Myddelton’s youngest children a distinct place within the school’s staffing structure. Provision covers children aged two, three and four at the primary school on Myddelton Street, London. For parents, the useful distinction is between the team supporting the youngest children and the nursery team, rather than treating early years as one undifferentiated group.
Learning builds in steps. In January 2024, the curriculum approach extended into early years, with learning ordered so that children could build on knowledge they already had. That gives the nursery a place within the school’s longer learning sequence.
The Learning Quarter Partnership names Caring, Connections, Communication, and Curiosity and Possibility as its curriculum drivers. It aims to develop children’s language and confidence in expressing themselves, alongside inquiry and independent thinking. These priorities give parents a useful picture of the intended emphasis: communication matters alongside discovering ideas. The partnership also aims to develop empathy and respect, making relationships part of its educational purpose.
Early Years Education Workers form part of the nursery team, alongside Midday Meals Supervisors. The 2+ Centre has an Early Years Lead Practitioner and Early Years Education Workers. These are distinct roles covering early education and lunchtime supervision; families choosing provision for a younger child should recognise that separate team structure.
For additional needs, the school has a Head of Inclusion whose responsibilities include coordinating SEND. Its support tools include a Pupil Passport and SEND Support Plan, as well as an Education, Health and Care Plan. The school also works with agencies and charities. Together, these provide a structure for discussing a child’s individual support needs.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions route and meet the applicable deadline. Treat the two decisions separately.
For the 2026 Reception intake, applications went through Islington Council’s online portal, while applications for two-, three- and four-year-olds were handled by the school. That distinction matters: a nursery application is not a Reception application, even when both concern Hugh Myddelton.
Nursery enquiries go directly to the school office, which supplies the admissions pack and application form. Contact hm@lqps.co.uk or telephone 020 7278 6075. For current charges, refer to the school.
School tours can be booked through the office and are led by a senior staff member. A limited number take place on Saturdays or at other times suited to parents’ commitments, giving families another way to arrange a visit.
Calendar planning. The autumn 2026 half term runs from 26 to 30 October, with a Hugh Myddelton inset day on 23 October and another on 2 November. The winter holiday runs from 21 December 2026 to 1 January 2027. Families planning childcare around the school calendar should account for those inset days as well as the holiday periods.
