Nursery at Burdett-Coutts and Townshend Foundation CofE Primary School

Two distinct stages shape the early years provision here: preschool for two-year-olds and nursery entry from three years and three months, subject to vacancies. Both belong to Burdett-Coutts and Townshend Foundation CofE Primary School. The 2026–2027 admissions policy sets nursery capacity at 26 full-time-equivalent places, a measure of provision rather than a headcount of children attending.
For September 2026, the school announced a preschool expansion to include babies from three months. That announcement concerns preschool, so families should distinguish it from the older nursery group. The Church of England setting welcomes families with other faiths and those with none.
Early learning combines opportunities to explore with learning to follow a shared routine. At the inspection on 24 April 2024, Ofsted found that the youngest children, including those aged two, benefited from the learning available and responded well to everyday routines and staff instructions. For a young child, those routines provide a practical introduction to taking part in a group.
Mathematical learning also starts in early years, where children develop the foundations for later work. These are findings about early education, rather than a separate nursery inspection grade.
Support for additional needs draws on the school’s SENDCo and classroom team. The February 2024 SEND Information Report describes adjustments to equipment and activities, support in small groups and additional adults where needed. Parents help shape that support, with targets discussed at a review meeting or parents’ evening each term.
Specialist advice may involve occupational therapists or speech and language therapists, with parental permission. This gives families a route from classroom adjustments to further assessment when necessary. Physical access includes toilets adapted for wheelchair users and step-free access at ground-floor level; visual materials also help children understand information.
Food choices appear on the admissions form: families can select a school meal or a lunch brought from home, and record allergies and dietary requirements. Sharing those details is part of preparing for the child’s care.
Nursery attendance neither guarantees a Reception place nor earns priority under the 2026–2027 admission arrangements. Parents must make another application. Choose the nursery for the early years experience itself, while planning separately for school entry.
The route is the home local authority’s common application form through the Pan-London Coordinated Admissions System, with online applications via eAdmissions recommended. For the September 2026 intake, the deadline was 15 January 2026. Applications under criteria 2–5 also required the school’s supplementary form.
Transition support is a separate matter. For children who find changing classes difficult, the SEND policy describes classroom visits, meeting teachers and information to refer to over the summer break, alongside parent and SENDCo discussions where possible.
Nursery places include full-time and part-time patterns. Applications use the school’s form, obtainable online or from the office, and offers depend on vacancies.
Early Years tours last 30 minutes and run on Thursdays during term time at 9.30am. Book through the office on 020 7828 6790 or email office@burdettcoutts.co.uk. The admissions form asks for authorised collectors and excludes collection by anyone younger than 16. Families should refer to the school for current charges.
Preschool provision covers two-year-olds, while nursery entry starts at three years and three months as vacancies arise. The school announced an expansion of preschool from September 2026 to accept babies from three months.
The 2026–2027 policy gives capacity as 26 full-time-equivalent places. This is not necessarily the number of individual children enrolled.
No. It does not guarantee a place or confer priority under the 2026–2027 arrangements. A separate Reception application is required through the normal coordinated route.
