Schools in Loughborough

Straddling the eastern flank of Charnwood Forest where the River Soar begins to widen through Leicestershire, Loughborough is a market town of around 65,000 people and the second largest settlement in the county after Leicester. The university campus anchors the south.

Loughborough town centre is among the most school-competitive pockets in this part of the county, with Thorpe Acre and Shepshed drawing families competing for primary places across the western fringes. East Midlands Railway connects Loughborough station to Leicester in around fifteen minutes and to Nottingham in roughly twenty-five. Booth Wood and Woodhouse Eaves extend the residential catchment eastward. The town's most singular landmark is John Taylor Bellfounders, the world's largest operating bell foundry, whose commissions include the great bells of St Paul's Cathedral and York Minster, and a 2,000-lb cast made in 1980 for AC/DC's recording of Hells Bells.
