Schools in Maldon

On the Blackwater Estuary in Essex, Maldon is an ancient market town and seat of its namesake district. The built-up area, extending north to include Heybridge, held around 23,000 residents at the 2021 census. Tollesbury lies further out along the estuary shore.

The Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation begins here, threading inland to Chelmsford, and Maldon Sea Salt has been harvested from these tidal waters for centuries. Maldon draws families from across the district to its schools, and Great Totham to the northwest is among the more school-competitive pockets for primary catchments. Without a direct rail link, the town relies on road connections to Chelmsford, roughly ten miles west, for access to the wider network.
