Nursery at All Saints Primary School

Outdoor learning is available throughout the nursery day at All Saints, rather than being confined to a break. That is the clearest feature of this school nursery in Gorton, Manchester, where children join from age three and begin learning within the school's early years provision.
In November 2022, Ofsted graded early years provision Good. This judgement covers the school's early years, rather than a separately inspected nursery. The practical choice is between part-time and full-time places, linked to funded childcare eligibility.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) here combines opportunities to learn outdoors with work on communication and early reading. Children begin practising speech sounds when they enter early years. Adult conversation also helps them build their language. For parents, these are concrete foundations: learning to express an idea and becoming familiar with the sounds used in reading.
Access to outdoor learning continues across the day. Within the wider school grounds, an orchard, raised beds for vegetables and a wildflower bee garden provide physical features beyond a conventional playground. These areas are used for teaching and therapeutic work; they should be understood as school facilities, rather than a promise that every nursery session includes gardening.
Early years lunch runs from 11:30am to 12:30pm. This gives the day a defined midday pause alongside its learning opportunities. There is also a reading concern to keep in view: in November 2022, some pupils needing phonics catch-up were receiving ineffective help. Gaps were not being identified sufficiently, and staff needed further training. That was a school-level concern, rather than a finding about every nursery child.
Children were settling promptly into early years in November 2022, forming friendships and developing language through exchanges with staff. Those findings give a useful picture of the social start to school life, as well as the learning itself.
Additional support connects the SENDCo with the EYFS team so that help can be arranged early. The school's Sunshine Room provides space for SEND interventions. Speech and language therapists, educational psychologists and specialist school outreach are among the services involved. Parents give permission before outside agencies provide support, and are encouraged to join relevant review meetings. This makes family involvement part of planning a child's support.
Meals across the school come from Taylor Shaw, with LunchHound used for choosing lunches. Medical diet requests are handled online. Families need to keep allergy information current with the school because the ordering system relies on those records. ParentMail carries the school's main communications, so accurate email and mobile details matter for everyday contact.
Attending this nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process, handled by Manchester City Council. Treat choosing the nursery and applying for Reception as two distinct decisions.
Transition support is a separate matter. The school's arrangements include teachers exchanging information between year groups and planning extra classroom visits where a child needs them. That can help staff understand a child's needs before a move; it does not secure admission.
Eligibility for 30 funded hours is linked to a full-time nursery place; eligibility for 15 funded hours is linked to a part-time place. Families eligible for 15 hours can pay to extend to full time. Contact the school for current charges.
Nursery applications use a form returned to the school office, where printed copies can also be collected. School tours can be arranged by telephone on 0161 223 9325 or by emailing admin@allsaints-pri.manchester.sch.uk.
Daily uniform includes royal-blue knitwear, white polo shirts and grey or black skirts or trousers. Nursery children receive black PE shorts and a blue logo T-shirt at no charge, while families provide outdoor PE footwear. If collection will be late, inform the office and give the expected delay.
