Nursery at CofE School of the Resurrection

Letters, sounds and books give this nursery a clear starting point. Children begin connecting sounds with letters during Nursery, while the wider early years reading routine brings books home for adults and children to share. There is a practical link between classroom learning and bedtime reading.
The nursery belongs to CofE School of the Resurrection on Pilgrim Drive in Beswick, Manchester, where provision starts at age three. It sits within a Church of England primary school. Ofsted graded the school's early years provision Good following its inspection on 10 and 11 January 2023; this is an early years judgement within the school inspection.
The Early Years Foundation Stage framework forms the basis of the curriculum. In parent language, the school plans learning in age-appropriate steps, returning to knowledge so children can practise and remember it. Its named principles include retrieval practice and explicit instruction: revisiting earlier learning and explaining new material directly. Questions and checks on understanding are also part of that design.
Reading provides the clearest picture of children's activity. Nursery children start linking letters to sounds. Each week, children in EYFS choose a book with an adult from the class libraries to enjoy at home. Those libraries are a concrete feature of the learning environment, and the selection gives families something specific to share together.
The Phase 1 guidance focuses on listening, remembering and discussing sounds, with preparation for blending sounds together and separating them out. For learning at home, the Supporting Early Learning guidance suggests clapping patterns, Kim’s game, threading and painting. These are parent activities rather than a nursery timetable, but they give families practical ways to continue listening, memory and coordination work.
Support for learning extends to adults at home. In January 2023, staff helped early years parents encourage their children's learning beyond school. The shared-book routine provides one direct way to do that.
Additional needs can be recognised early. The January 2023 findings described accurate identification of SEND, often during early years. A school Inclusion Lead and SENDCO provides a contact route for families, and the role carries the National Award in Special Educational Needs and Disability Co-ordination. The school building includes an accessible toilet; reasonable adjustments are part of its accessibility arrangements.
For medical needs requiring medicine during the day, an individual healthcare plan is developed with the school nurse. Prescribed medication requires a completed parental permission form. These arrangements give families a defined process for discussing care.
School-wide improvement actions in January 2023 concerned clearer explanations of new learning and more consistent assessment to spot misunderstandings. These were actions for the school as a whole, rather than findings assigned specifically to Nursery.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet its deadline.
For the September 2026 intake, the admissions route was Manchester City Council's website together with a school application form. That was a past admissions cycle. Familiarity with the school should be kept separate from the question of securing a place.

The school meal system uses classroom ordering and online payment through ParentPay; milk is ordered separately through cool.milk.com. Contact the school for current charges.
Breakfast provision includes an Early Years group in the KS1 dining area. Registration forms collect emergency contacts and allergy information, making this a practical care arrangement as well as a food service.
The school's provision starts at age three.
Early years provision was graded Good at the school inspection on 10 and 11 January 2023. This is not a separate nursery inspection outcome.
