Nursery at New Moston Primary School
Last reviewed: October 2026 · Inspection data and key information above update regularly, however, this review below is refreshed bi-annually and may not reflect recent changes. Contact the nursery directly to confirm current arrangements. If you spot anything outdated or inaccurate, please let us know.
Sharing, taking turns and staying curious give New Moston’s nursery its clearest character. At the November 2024 Ofsted inspection, early years provision was graded Good, with nursery children following familiar routines and remaining absorbed in learning. This is the school’s early years judgement, rather than a separate nursery rating.
Children can join the school’s own nursery from age three. It forms part of New Moston Primary School on Moston Lane East in Manchester, so families deal directly with the school office for nursery enquiries.
Learning combines social habits with opportunities to explore. In November 2024, nursery children understood daily routines and were developing the ability to share and wait for a turn. These are practical foundations for joining activities with other children.
The early years learning areas encouraged exploration, with experiences that developed knowledge gradually and held children’s attention. Children had opportunities to revisit learning as well as investigate. The emphasis was on building understanding over time, giving curiosity a purpose within the day.
Local visits add a possible connection with the neighbourhood. The school’s consent form includes Nursery, and potential destinations include New Moston Library, nearby nature spaces and places of worship. These are supervised walking trips linked to learning or seasonal interests. Families give consent annually; journeys involving transport or destinations further away trigger advance information.
Support sits within the school’s wider pastoral structure. The Inclusion Team includes SEND coordinators, a safeguarding lead and deputy safeguarding leads. Parents can reach the Pastoral Team through the office or at pastoral@newmoston.manchester.sch.uk, giving families a direct route for concerns about behaviour, wellbeing or additional needs.
The school’s SEND approach includes individual support plans, specialist advice and family involvement in planning and reviews. Its classroom framework names visual prompts, vocabulary preparation and instruction broken into smaller steps. These describe how teaching can be adjusted to help children participate.
Communication deserves attention: the November 2024 inspection identified concerns among some parents across the school about explanations of SEND decisions. Families should establish how support decisions and reviews will be discussed with them.
For children using school dinners, Trafford Council supplies meals and My Evolve Hub handles advance ordering. The office provides account access. Parents must cancel an absent child’s meal before 9:30am that day, including when the child receives Free School Meals.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through Manchester City Council, which manages admissions from Reception onwards. Treat the nursery choice and the later school application as separate decisions.
Breakfast Club accepts nursery children and runs Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 8:40am. Breakfast choices include fruit, cereals and toast, with milk or water. Drawing, puzzles and reading provide activities before children are taken to class. Families can register interest through the school; contact it for current charges.
Nursery tours can be arranged through the office. Call 0161 6813321 or email admin@newmoston.manchester.sch.uk. Visitors use the main entrance and secure entry system. Parking is limited, so allow for that when planning a visit.
