Thirteen pre-school places within a shared early years unit give Holy Trinity's nursery its defining shape. The provision belongs to Class 1 at this Catholic primary school in Brierfield, with a teacher and two supporting adults working across the unit. Nursery sits within school life from the start.
The school occupies grounds on Brierfield's edge, with views towards Pendle Hill. Its Catholic identity matters to the choice: Holy Trinity describes faith as running through learning and daily life, rather than being confined to religious lessons.
Play is the starting point for learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) unit. Children take part in activities outdoors and indoors, with topics giving some structure to the year and children's interests helping to shape what they explore. For parents, that means learning through things children do, as well as through a planned theme.
Nursery rhymes are a specific pre-school focus in the autumn programme. Exploring rhyme, patterns and ways of retelling stories gives children opportunities to join in with language and make stories their own. Nativity rehearsals and celebrations around Christmas and Bonfire Night also feature in the early years programme, connecting classroom activity with seasonal events.
Class 1's creative work includes Marvellous Marks, using chalk and experimenting with different materials, and Paint My World, which included a collaborative artwork inspired by Chinese New Year. These are examples from the shared unit: they show the practical character of its learning, rather than a separate nursery timetable.
Food preparation has featured too. Under Yummy, Scrummy Food, Class 1 made fruit kebabs, sandwiches and pizza, giving children a practical connection with food. Early years careers learning uses Unifrog resources alongside role-play, stories, visitors and conversations about community jobs. The emphasis is on discovering what people do.
Settling into Holy Trinity is a focus for pre-school children in the first autumn half-term. The shared unit's teacher and supporting adults provide the team structure around those early experiences.
For children with special educational needs and disabilities, the school's support arrangements involve families in decisions. Support plans bring together contributions from parents or carers, the class teacher and the child, with the SENDCo also involved in discussion. This gives families a role in planning help. The school building is on one level and has a disabled toilet, concrete features relevant to physical access.
Attending Holy Trinity's nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet the applicable deadline. Treat choosing a nursery and securing a school place as separate decisions.
