Schools in Nelson

A former cotton-weaving settlement of around 34,000 in the Borough of Pendle, Lancashire, Nelson grew rapidly through the nineteenth century as the mill trade expanded along the valleys below the East Lancashire moors, drawing workers into rows of stone terraces that still form the bulk of the townscape today. The terraces extend south into Brierfield and Whitefield.

Barrowford, on the northern fringe, is among Pendle's most school-competitive villages for primary places, with families competing across the borough to secure catchments there alongside Marsden to the east. Rail services link Nelson to Manchester Victoria in under an hour, and the village of Roughlee sits in the quieter Pendle valley beyond.
