Pre-school gives The Grange's Junior School an earlier starting point, alongside its pre-prep and prep provision. This is an independent setting for girls and boys in Hartford, with the Junior School based on Beechwood Avenue. Families considering the youngest provision can book a tour specifically for Preschool, rather than a general school visit.
Seasonal activity mornings give children aged three to four a chance to play with the school's team. Summertime Smiles and Autumn Adventures are the named events. These offer a practical introduction for families considering the setting.
Play is the focus of the pre-school taster experience. The July 2026 event offered educational toys and activities while parents had time to meet other families. Baby-changing facilities and parking on site supported the family visit. That event has passed; bespoke tours provide another way to become familiar with the setting.
The wider Junior School gives useful context for the surroundings. Its children have outdoor play spaces with equipment, and staff support their play during breaks. Catering is provided on site. These features place play and meals alongside learning in the Junior School's account of daily life.
At Junior School level, the Form Teacher handles everyday pastoral matters, supported by Key Stage leaders and a Deputy Head responsible for pastoral care. The Wellbeing Hub provides a quiet space where children can take a pause, sometimes accompanied by a Teaching and Learning Assistant who reads or talks with them. This describes the wider support structure around the youngest provision.
Families registering for pre-school activity mornings can flag dietary, medical or educational needs on the booking form. The team may telephone for further details, giving parents a route to explain needs before the event.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families should make a separate Reception application through the school's own application route. The Grange is independently run, and its admissions page makes an offer conditional on passing its entrance assessment.
For the September 2026 intake, the Reception-specific page gave an application deadline of 20 November 2025 and an assessment in mid-January 2026. Both dates are past. Keep the application decision separate from choosing the pre-school.
