Ladybirds, Bumblebees and Butterflies give Holy Trinity’s nursery provision an age-based identity within its Church of England primary academy. Ladybirds is the baby room for children aged 9 months to 2 years; Bumblebees is for two-year-olds, and Butterflies is the preschool nursery for three- and four-year-olds. The provision sits at Holy Trinity on Middleton Road in Oswestry.
Christian values shape the wider setting. The school describes hope, love and respect as central to its purpose. For parents, the named rooms and age groups provide a useful starting point for understanding which part of the nursery their child would join.
Two three-hour blocks shape the nursery timetable: mornings run from 8.45am to 11.45am, with afternoons from 12.15pm to 3.15pm. Lunch occupies the half-hour between them. This gives families clear landmarks for the nursery day, rather than having to use the timetable for older pupils.
In November 2023, staff had a planned sequence for teaching its content, and the early-years learning space had equipment and organisation that helped children use the curriculum. Ofsted graded the school’s early-years provision Good at its inspection on 22 and 23 November 2023.
Learning expectations. In November 2023, adults sometimes underestimated children’s capabilities, leaving some learning insufficiently developed. Families should weigh that concern alongside the positive finding about the learning environment: resources alone do not tell the whole story of how far children are challenged.
An on-site kitchen prepares cooked lunches, while families can choose a packed lunch instead. Drinking water is freely accessible, and parents should raise dietary requirements with the school. The nursery’s lunchtime runs from 11.45am to 12.15pm, making food a distinct part of its daily rhythm.
Additional learning support can involve the child’s teacher, a classroom assistant or the Special Educational Needs and Disability Co-ordinator (SENDCo). The school also works with outside agencies. Parents are encouraged to take part in review meetings, giving them a role in discussions about their child’s support and progress.
New nursery starters have previously been invited to drop-in sessions with their parents or carers. Spending that introductory time together offers a practical way to become familiar with the setting before a child attends independently.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through their home local authority’s online application service. The deadline is 15 January in the academic year before the child starts school; for September 2027 entry, it is 15 January 2027.
Preparation for starting school is a separate matter. Children are invited to visit during the preceding half term, helping them become familiar with staff, other children and the school. Parents also receive invitations to information sessions about teaching practice. These are transition activities, not an assurance of admission.
For Ladybirds and Bumblebees, families can submit an initial enquiry and receive a response from the team. School visits can be arranged through the office on 01691 654832. Nursery parents may accompany their children into school, allowing an adult to come inside with them at drop-off.
