Returned in the Domesday Book as Poltun in 1086, Poulton-le-Fylde has served as the market town of the Lancashire Fylde for nearly a millennium. The medieval market square and stocks remain.
The Breck is the school-competitive residential quarter east of the town, where families compete for primary places, and Poulton-le-Fylde itself is widely regarded as one of the Fylde's most consistent postcodes for school catchments. Hambleton and Singleton extend along the rural fringe to the east, with Preesall reaching north toward the Wyre estuary. Northern Rail services link the station to Blackpool North in around ten minutes and onward to Preston in approximately twenty-five, and around 18,000 people live in the town today.
