Language gives Webheath's early years its character: children explaining how a caterpillar becomes a butterfly, choosing resources with purpose and learning to manage their feelings. These are concrete foundations for a nursery education, bringing conversation, independence and relationships into the same picture.
Webheath Academy Primary School's nursery admits three-year-olds in Webheath, Redditch. It belongs to the primary school. At the Ofsted inspection on 20 and 21 May 2025, early years provision was judged Outstanding. That judgement covers the school's early years provision rather than a separately inspected nursery.
Communication is a clear priority in the early years curriculum. Learning builds from children's existing understanding and abilities, with adults planning around their needs. For parents, the important point is the connection between talking and understanding: the caterpillar example shows children explaining a sequence of change, rather than simply naming an insect.
Independence also has a practical meaning here. In May 2025, children chose activities and resources intentionally, sustained their attention and persisted when learning something new. Choice therefore sits alongside concentration and perseverance. It gives children opportunities to make decisions about their learning and keep working at something that takes effort.
The early years foundation stage brings learning and personal development together. At Webheath, the evidenced emphasis combines language with emotional control and relationships. Established routines and high expectations give that learning a consistent framework. The picture is of children developing the skills to participate, explain their ideas and use resources for a purpose.
Relationships are part of the learning itself. In May 2025, early years children developed positive connections with adults and other children, alongside greater control over their emotions. That matters for a young child learning how to share a space and take part in activities with others.
Adults planned learning to suit children's needs and treated each child as an individual. Together with familiar routines, this supported children feeling content and secure. The strongest evidenced care detail is this combination of individual attention and consistency: children have a framework for the day while their learning starts from what they can already do.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through Worcestershire's online local authority admissions route, with a deadline of 15 January each year. Choosing the nursery and applying for school are therefore two distinct decisions; joining the nursery does not replace that later application.
The application route is www.worcestershire.gov.uk/schooladmissions. Families needing help with the process can telephone school admissions on 01905 822700. Keep the Reception deadline in view while considering the nursery, so that familiarity with the school does not lead to a missed application.
For nursery vacancies and help applying, contact the school office or nursery manager. Parents and children are encouraged to visit the school and pre-school, speak with staff and see the facilities. This gives families an opportunity to meet the team before applying.
The school is on Downsell Road, Webheath, Redditch, B97 5RJ. Contact the office on 01527 544820 or email office@waps.shiresmat.org.uk for nursery enquiries.
