One room, an outdoor learning space and a village school building give Early Birds its own identity within The Revel. Based in the Old School Building in Harborough Magna, the nursery has a separate site from the school's Reception provision. This is a distinct nursery setting within the wider school family.
Children can join from 2 years 9 months and remain until they move to Reception. Each session accommodates a maximum of 24 children. Early Birds has been part of The Revel since September 2016, combining its village location with membership of a larger school.
Learning extends between the nursery's single indoor room and its outdoor space. Children have access to activities in both, so the learning environment reaches beyond the classroom. The building was designed for educational use; the single-room arrangement gives the provision a clearly defined physical setting.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) takes practical form through imaginative and creative activities, number learning, movement and social experiences. Early writing and recognising letters are also part of the mix. The emphasis is on several kinds of development together, rather than writing alone: children have opportunities to use their bodies, interact with others and explore mathematical ideas.
In November 2022, Ofsted identified regular nursery singing, including songs and rhymes, as preparation for Reception. That gives early reading preparation a musical starting point.
A small practitioner team provides the nursery's daily care and learning experiences. Early Birds describes its approach as combining a stable, welcoming atmosphere with structure appropriate to children's ages. For families, that places both familiarity and routines within the nursery's stated approach.
The wider school's support structure includes a SEND coordinator and a Home School Support Worker. Its approach to special educational needs and disabilities includes monitoring children's progress through assessment and regular Achievement Team Meetings. The school aims to adapt the learning environment to different needs. These are school-wide arrangements, giving families a broader support structure alongside the nursery team.
Attending Early Birds does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through the normal Reception admissions process. Applications go to Warwickshire Admissions Service, which can be contacted on 01926 742037 or at admissions@warwickshire.gov.uk.
The physical move matters too: Early Birds is in Harborough Magna, while The Revel's Reception provision is in Brinklow. Joining the same school therefore involves changing sites, rather than simply moving to another room in the nursery building.
Early Birds operates during term time, with daily opening hours of 9am to 3.30pm. Extended care is offered through Revel Kids Club at Monks Kirby. That adds another location to consider when planning childcare around the nursery day.
