Taking turns and switching activities calmly are telling details of Sacred Heart’s early years provision. They point to a day in which learning to share and manage transitions matters alongside classroom learning. The nursery belongs to Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School in Ruislip, on Herlwyn Avenue.
Ofsted rated the school’s early years provision Outstanding at the inspection on 18 and 19 June 2024. That judgement covers early years within the school; it is not a separate nursery rating.
Established routines give the early years day its shape. In June 2024, children shared turns and moved between activities calmly. For a parent thinking about a child’s first experience of group learning, these are useful signs: participation includes waiting, sharing and changing tasks.
Learning also has a planned sequence from early years onwards. New content builds on what children have already learned, rather than standing as disconnected activities. This makes the nursery’s place within the school relevant educationally, while remaining separate from the question of securing a later school place.
Settling is supported by familiar routines. In June 2024, children in early years received help to become accustomed to them quickly. This matters for families weighing the emotional adjustment to nursery as well as the learning itself.
For support at home, the school’s Emotional Wellbeing page links to Cosmic Kids Zen Den, with yoga and mindfulness techniques for young children. These are parent resources, rather than a promise about nursery sessions. The SEND page also provides access to the SEND Information Report and Accessibility Plan, alongside Colourful Semantics material under Speech & Language. Families can use those documents when considering their child’s support needs.
A nursery place does not guarantee Reception admission. Choosing Sacred Heart Nursery therefore leaves a separate school application to complete. Families must apply again through the normal Reception process and meet the deadline for their intake.
For the September 2025 Reception intake, the process required both an application to the family’s local borough and the school’s supplementary form. The deadline for that cycle was 15 January 2025. Those are past arrangements, not dates to use for a future application. Keep the two processes distinct when planning ahead: accepting a nursery offer does not complete the later Reception application.
Session preference is conditional. For the September 2025 nursery intake, families could request mornings, afternoons or full time. Morning hours were 8.30am to 11.30am; afternoons ran from 12.30pm to 3.30pm. Requests for full time were welcomed, but the eventual session structure depended on applications and preferences. A requested pattern was not guaranteed, so families should treat the offered session as the basis for childcare planning.
That intake used the school’s online application portal, with supporting documents uploaded there rather than delivered separately on paper or by email. The school handles nursery admissions directly. Its notice says the application deadlines for Nursery and Reception 2026/27 have passed.
