At a Glance

Child-chosen play and small-group learning share the nursery day at Whiteheath, with stories, singing and outdoor resources woven into sessions. This is the school's own nursery on Ladygate Lane in Ruislip. It offers places for three- and four-year-olds and announced provision for two-year-olds from September 2026; applications for that age group are marked full, with a waiting list.

Ofsted's March 2026 report judged early years to be at Strong standard. That judgement covers the school's early years provision, rather than a separately inspected nursery.

The Nursery Day

Small-group registration includes a focused activity that encourages children to join in. Sessions then combine adult-guided tasks with children choosing their own resources, alongside individual and group learning. That balance gives children practice in making decisions as well as listening and participating with others.

The Early Years Foundation Stage takes practical form through topics, conversation and creative activity. Painting, collage, cutting and colour mixing are available in nursery, giving children ways to experiment with materials and develop their hand skills. Indoor and outdoor resources are accessible during sessions. Beyond the nursery's learning spaces, the school grounds include a pond, maze, growing area and Forest School area.

Letters and Sounds provides a speaking-and-listening activity towards the session's close, followed by singing and stories. Language receives careful attention: the March 2026 early years findings describe adults introducing specific words and helping children use them in everyday conversation. Number activities also develop understanding and problem-solving. Learning builds in stages, with provision for three-year-olds matched to their development rather than a single pace for everyone.

Care and Support

Gradual entry at the beginning of sessions gives staff time to greet families and help children settle. A nursery teacher and nursery key worker appear in the 2025/26 staff list. In March 2026, early years staff worked with parents to establish children's existing knowledge and shape subsequent learning. Predictable, caring routines helped children understand expectations.

Food is straightforward: snacks and drinks are supplied, fruit is accessible during the day, and children attending full days bring their own packed lunch. A water bottle comes from home each day.

The school has an Inclusion Manager; support for identified additional needs is discussed with parents and provided in the classroom and through specific interactive programmes. Some buildings have wheelchair access, and there is an accessible toilet. Early years activities are adapted to individual needs, with targeted help for disadvantaged children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities. This makes support part of learning rather than a separate admissions question.

Moving On to Reception

Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through their local authority; Whiteheath's main-school admissions route is Hillingdon School Admissions. Apply through the normal Reception process by its deadline.

The listed oversubscription criteria do not give priority for nursery attendance. They include looked-after status, specified medical circumstances, siblings and distance. Familiarity with Whiteheath therefore needs to be kept separate from the allocation of a school place.

Practical Information

The nursery admissions timetable gives mornings as 8:45am to 11:35am, afternoons as 12:25pm to 3:20pm, and full days as 8:45am to 2:35pm. Morning and full-day drop-off starts at 8:35am. Families take the morning, afternoon or full-day pattern across Monday to Friday; individual mornings or a couple of days are not offered.

Universal funded places provide 15 hours for three- and four-year-olds. Eligible two-year-olds can access funded 15-hour places, while eligible children aged two to four can take funded 30-hour places. Self-funded full days are also offered. Funded 30-hour places require an eligibility code, and the school prioritises 30-hour places.

A separately charged extension runs from 2:35pm to 3:20pm in term time, booked and paid through School Money. Breakfast Club also accepts nursery children, running from 7:30am to 8:40am in term time. Holiday care is arranged separately through The Eye Nursery, subject to places. Ask the school for current charges.

Uniform consists of a Whiteheath sweatshirt, cardigan or jumper with a white polo and black bottoms. Choose seasonal footwear; open-toed shoes and Crocs are excluded. Nursery enquiries go to admissions@whiteheath-inf.hillingdon.sch.uk or 01895 630 262. Whole-school tours can be booked through the office and last about an hour.
