In June 2026, Greenmount’s early years children practised independence by preparing snacks and cutting fruit with adult supervision. That small task illustrated how care, exploration and purposeful teaching worked together. The nursery is incorporated into the main school at Greenmount Primary School in Ryde, with early years provision welcoming children from age 2.
In the Ofsted report dated June 2026, early years met the Expected standard. This is an early years judgement within the school’s inspection, rather than a separate nursery rating.
In June 2026, learning combined exploration with structured teaching. Phonics, mathematics and early writing gave children opportunities to build specific skills, while adults also supported them to investigate and become more independent. The early years curriculum covered different areas of learning and was planned for children at different developmental stages. For parents, this meant an emphasis on building foundations through both play and focused activities.
By June 2026, teaching was generally effective and the learning environment was calm and purposeful. Children made good progress from their individual starting points, building reading and writing skills and gaining confidence as learners. Staff assessed learning accurately, using what children could already do to identify what they should learn next. This gives teaching a purpose beyond simply keeping children occupied.
Language development. Adults’ exchanges with children were usually purposeful, but extending language consistently during play remained a focus. More searching questions and clear examples of language are the next step, so conversations become opportunities to stretch children’s understanding.
In June 2026, warm relationships between children and adults supported daily learning. Early years care was effective, with routines that addressed children’s emotional needs alongside their physical care. Snack preparation provided one concrete example: supervised fruit cutting let children practise doing a useful task themselves, with adult support close by.
The preschool team includes a manager and its own special educational needs co-ordinator. Early years children with additional needs received carefully considered support in June 2026. That gives families a relevant starting point for discussing their child’s needs with the preschool team. The school’s SEND contact is senco@greenmount.iow.sch.uk.
ClassDojo is the school’s main channel for parent communication. Messages, photographs, events and updates can be shared through the app, giving families a way to keep in touch between direct conversations. Parents can obtain an invitation through the school office.
Attending Greenmount’s nursery does not guarantee a place in its Reception class. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions route by the applicable deadline.
The school describes incorporating the nursery into the main school as a way to support continuity of care and the move between stages. That is a practical connection between nursery and school life; it does not replace the separate application.
