Nursery at Broughton Jewish Cassel Fox Primary School

An Orthodox Jewish setting gives this nursery its character: the school aims to combine Jewish traditions with secular learning and to support children's emotional and spiritual development. Families are expected to support its ethos, including Shabbos observance, Middos Tovos and Tznius. That relationship between home and school matters from the outset.
The Nursery class takes children in the year of their fourth birthday, within Broughton Jewish Cassel Fox Primary School on Legh Road, Salford. It is distinct from the separately registered kindergarten. In April 2024, the nursery had 60 places; that is a dated capacity figure, rather than a promise of availability today.
Books are a concrete part of nursery learning. In December 2022, children encountered both factual books and fiction, with adults extending their reading choices and reading stories frequently. This gives young children opportunities to enjoy stories as well as discover information through books.
In December 2022, staff checked what children remembered and adjusted teaching when they needed more help. Paper assessments were deliberately limited, leaving adults more time for teaching. The practical emphasis was on responding to children's understanding.
Outdoor provision also forms part of the early years environment. In July 2024, developing its use remained a school priority, with staff taking responsibility for it and children engaging with it. This makes outdoor learning a useful focus when viewing the nursery.
Leadership of the combined kindergarten and nursery team includes a Head of Early Years with SEN coordination responsibilities. For families concerned about additional needs, the first contact is the child's class teacher, with the SENDCo involved in planning support.
The school's support process includes visual prompts, changes to instructions and multisensory learning. Its Assess, Plan, Do, Review cycles run for six to eight weeks, incorporating both parent and child views. Families therefore have a defined part in reviewing how support is working.
Food adjustments can address sensory needs where appropriate, including choices at lunchtime. In July 2024, school dinners were Kosher meals with two courses. This describes the school's meal provision, rather than a nursery-specific lunch arrangement.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place and does not confer priority under the admission criteria. Families must apply separately through their home local authority's Common Application Form by 15 January in the year of entry. To establish faith-based priority, they must send the Supplementary Information Form to the school at the same time as they return the Common Application Form to their home local authority, before the closing date.
Preparation for that move is separate from allocation. Reception starters receive nursery visits and a school taster session, alongside induction packs, a parent welcome meeting and staggered September starts. Children with SEND may need an enhanced transition.
Nursery enquiries can be made on 0161 529 1983. Parents can arrange a school tour by appointment, providing an opportunity to discuss their child's needs with the team.
Adult dress expectations. Women coming onto the premises should wear skirts or dresses reaching at least the knee, elbow-length sleeves and suitable necklines. Men should cover their heads and avoid vest-type tops. These expectations apply when accompanying children onto the school site.
