Nursery at Monton Green Primary School

Outdoor learning runs through the day at Monton Green’s nursery. Children can use the outdoor provision throughout their time in school, making it part of the daily learning environment rather than a scheduled break alone.
The nursery has a full-time class with 30 places within the school’s Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) department on Pine Grove, Monton. Its organisation gives families a school-based nursery day, with lunch and options for childcare on the same site.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) covers the school’s nursery and Reception-aged children, and nursery has its own long-term learning plan. Across the school, learning is organised around themes and topics. In parent terms, children build knowledge about a topic while practising the skills they need to learn. Both what they learn and how they learn it matter.
Outdoor provision is accessible throughout the day. Lunch begins at 11:30am for nursery children, providing a fixed point in that routine. For parents, this combines continuing access to outdoor learning with a defined mealtime.
The Early Years Curriculum Plan and Guides page brings together an Early Years Handbook and the Parents’ Guide to the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework. These give families a route into understanding the department’s organisation and the framework used for their child’s early education.
Citywide Catering prepares school meals on site, with cold choices alongside hot dishes and a menu rotating over three weeks. Dietary needs can be accommodated. Families can also send a packed lunch; children share mealtimes whichever option they take. Water and milk are offered with lunch, and milk orders are arranged by term.
Support for additional learning needs is coordinated by a senior teacher acting as SENCO. Planning and assessment take account of the nature and extent of a child’s difficulties, with support organised for individuals or groups so they can participate in learning. The main office is the contact route for the SENCO.
Communication includes parent and teacher meetings each term and electronic newsletters each half term about departmental learning. A concern can also be raised through the office, with a teacher able to arrange a conversation or return a call. This gives parents contact routes beyond the classroom door.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process; Salford Local Authority handles applications and the waiting list.
For the September 2026 intake, the application deadline was 15 January 2026. That date has passed. Treat the Reception application as a separate step from choosing and attending the nursery.
The school day runs from 8:55am until 3:25pm, with classroom doors opening at 8:50am. Parents bring children into the playground and say goodbye outside their classroom. Collection changes should be communicated to school so staff can follow the revised arrangements.
Early Birds and After School Club provide childcare on the premises, run by school staff and open to children on the school roll. Registration information and current charges come from the office.
Use the gates reached from the public footpath to access the grounds. Families should avoid the school drive; the car park is reserved for staff. General enquiries go to the office on 0161 707 2287 or admin@montongreen.salford.sch.uk.
