Nursery at Toras Emes

Learning to share and learning new ideas go together in Toras Emes’ early years provision. In July 2024, children were taking turns, sharing readily and handling disagreements successfully. These are useful foundations for spending a session with other children: joining in involves cooperation as well as learning.
The nursery belongs to an independent boys’ school with an Orthodox Jewish ethos in Broughton, Salford. The school admits children from age three and operates at 6 Coke Street West. Ofsted rated its early years provision Good following the inspection of 2 to 4 July 2024. That judgement covers the school’s early years provision, rather than a separately graded nursery.
The early years curriculum had a clear educational purpose in July 2024. Learning was organised to help children acquire knowledge and build on it. For parents, the useful point is the connection between activities: children’s learning should develop over time, rather than consist of unrelated tasks.
Staff understood young children’s learning and gave attention to emotional and social growth alongside academic development. Learning to get along with others therefore had a place alongside acquiring knowledge. The early years foundation stage, or EYFS, provides the framework for this stage of education; the school met its statutory requirements in July 2024.
Sharing, waiting for a turn and settling disagreements were concrete examples of children’s social development that month. These everyday skills matter in group learning, where children need to participate alongside their peers. The balance between academic and personal development is the clearest evidenced feature of the early years experience here.
Personal, emotional and social development received deliberate attention from early years staff in July 2024. This matters for young children whose ability to take part in learning depends on more than what they know: relationships and managing interactions with other children count too.
Safeguarding arrangements apply across the school. In March 2026, staff had training to recognise potential harm, recorded concerns promptly and passed them on for action. Leaders responded appropriately, and the safeguarding standards checked that month were met. Parents can request a copy of the safeguarding policy, giving families a way to understand the procedures protecting their child.
Attending the nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Nursery admission and Reception admission are separate processes, so families must apply again through the normal application route and meet the applicable deadline. Treat the nursery choice and the Reception application as two decisions, even when hoping to remain at the same school.

School compliance. In March 2026, the school still failed some independent school standards concerning curriculum delivery, assessment and leadership. These were school-level findings, rather than a new nursery grade. Families should weigh that regulatory position alongside the dated Good judgement for early years.
