Little Acorns gives Christ Church’s nursery its own class identity within a village primary school in Cressage. Children can start in the term following their third birthday. This is the nursery at Christ Church Church of England Primary School on Sheinton Road, rather than a separate childcare setting.
The school welcomes families with any faith background, including none. Its Christian vision, Preparing, Sowing, Growing, draws on the mustard seed parable and expresses an aim to help children discover their interests and develop ambition.
The nursery forms part of the school’s early years unit. Prospective families can attend stay and play and talk with staff, giving parent and child a chance to experience the unit together before deciding whether to join.
Teaching assistants work in Little Acorns Nursery Class. Across the school, teachers direct assistants’ work with groups and individual children. New families are offered a home visit from the Acorn Class teacher and told which adults will work with their child. That provides an opportunity to discuss the child before the school relationship begins.
Parents can arrange a longer conversation with a class teacher at a time that suits both parties. Informal conversations with the headteacher are also possible at the beginning and end of the day. A staff photo board opposite the Children’s Entrance identifies contacts for safeguarding concerns and first aid, making the route to help concrete.
For additional needs, the school’s 2024–2025 SEND arrangements described individual support plans and termly progress meetings involving parents. These meetings could take place by telephone, through Teams or in person. The arrangements also included the Cherry Room, a sensory room, as a possible space for time out. Support was planned around the child’s needs, with specialist involvement considered where appropriate.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through their home local authority; choosing Little Acorns does not replace that step.
For the 2027/2028 intake, applications are coordinated by Shropshire Council through its online application facility, with 15 January preceding the academic year of entry as the closing date. Nursery attendance gives no priority under those arrangements. Allocation follows separate criteria, so familiarity with the school and entitlement to a place are different matters.
Reception application. Keep the school application deadline in view while your child attends nursery. A nursery place is not a reservation for the next stage.
