Schools in Shrewsbury

Founded with a castle and abbey by the Norman Earl Roger de Montgomery in 1074, Shrewsbury grew within a meander of the River Severn to become the county town of Shropshire. The medieval street plan survives largely undisturbed, with over 660 listed buildings marking every other street. Charles Darwin was born here. Around 77,000 people lived in the parish at the 2021 census.

Kingsland and Coleham are among the most sought-after pockets for school catchments, and Acton Burnell, southeast of the centre, is widely regarded as one of Shropshire's most competitive addresses for school places. Longnor and Bicton Heath extend the residential spread, and five railway lines meet at Shrewsbury station, with West Midlands Railway services reaching Birmingham New Street in around an hour.
