Theme-based play indoors and outside gives Langley’s nursery its character. Children explore, make things and encounter different beliefs and cultures, while the nursery aims to build independence and consideration for others. This is the school’s nursery class for three- and four-year-olds, in Olton, Solihull. Early Start and Preschool are separate provisions for younger children, so families need to distinguish those arrangements from the nursery class’s term-time day.
A morning runs from 8:55am to 11:55am; children attending the longer day finish at 2:55pm. Both patterns run Monday to Friday during term time. The practical difference is substantial: the morning provides three hours each day, while the longer pattern includes the afternoon.
The Early Years Foundation Stage, or EYFS, brings together learning and development for young children. Langley’s early years curriculum emphasises conversation and vocabulary, alongside movement and children’s social and emotional development. Reading, mathematics, creative work and understanding the world extend those foundations. For parents, that means learning reaches beyond early reading and number work to how children communicate and relate to others.
Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised begins in nursery. Stories, poems, action rhymes and listening activities feature in the preparation for phonics, giving children ways to practise attention and hear how language works.
Indoor and outdoor experiences follow themes. During autumn 2025, nursery activities included an autumn walk, Diwali celebrations and fire safety. These give concrete examples of how seasonal change, different cultures and everyday safety become subjects for exploration.
Lunch can be a hot dinner or a packed lunch brought from home. Hot dinners are charged and paid through MCAS, so families can choose the arrangement that suits them.
Across the academy, SEND support follows a cycle of assessing needs, planning help, putting it into practice and reviewing progress. Families can contact the SENDCo through SENDCO@langley.tgacademy.org.uk. This gives parents a direct route for discussing additional needs.
The separate preschool provision assigns each new child a key person to support settling and track development. Its childcare team includes staff trained to teacher level or equivalent. Those arrangements belong to preschool and wraparound care, rather than describing the nursery class’s staffing model.
Attending Langley’s nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Parents must make a separate Reception application through Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, using the council’s online route or requesting an application form. Treat that application as a separate step in your planning.
For September 2026 Reception entry, the closing date was 15 January 2026. That application cycle is now past; the date should not be treated as the deadline for a later intake.
The nursery’s universal funded pattern is 15 hours across weekday mornings. Eligible families can use 30 funded hours for the longer day. Families who do not qualify for 30 hours can pay to extend attendance, and wraparound care can supplement the nursery day. Funding is administered by Childcare Bookings; ask the school for current charges.
Nursery applications go directly to the school. Enquiries can be made to the office on 0121 706 3932, while Childcare Bookings handles funding enquiries at enquiries@childcarebookings.co.uk.
Calendar exceptions. After-school wraparound will not run on 13 January or 15 June 2027 because of staff training. Families relying on that care should arrange an alternative for those dates.
