Nursery at North Baddesley Infant School

Last reviewed: October 2026 · Inspection data and key information above update regularly, however, this review below is refreshed bi-annually and may not reflect recent changes. Contact the nursery directly to confirm current arrangements. If you spot anything outdated or inaccurate, please let us know.

At a Glance

A dedicated outdoor learning space and a teacher-led team give North Baddesley’s nursery its shape: early education within an infant school, with room to explore beyond the nursery building. Children aged two to four attend, and capacity is 40 children. The nursery opened in January 2022.

An early years teacher heads the provision, supported by staff with NVQ qualifications. The nursery aims to develop curiosity and confidence, with independence, resilience and respect as its guiding values.

The Nursery Day

Children’s interests help shape the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum. In parent terms, their fascinations provide starting points for learning, while curricular goals give that exploration direction. The nursery aims to help children become more independent, respect others and keep trying when something is difficult. Development Matters and birth to 5 are among the guidance used to plan it. The nursery aims to encourage children to attempt challenges and persist when something takes practice.

Outdoor learning has its own space. Nursery children can use their dedicated area throughout the day, with access to the wooded area and main playground at suitable times. That gives them both a space reserved for their age group and opportunities to explore the wider grounds. Visitors also bring expertise into the nursery, connecting learning with people beyond the staff team.

Food helps structure sessions. Morning attendance includes milk, a snack and hot lunch; afternoon attendance includes lunch and milk. Children eat in either the nursery building or the hall, making mealtimes part of their shared day.

Curriculum continuity. In March 2023, Ofsted identified incomplete sequencing of knowledge, vocabulary and skills across subjects from nursery onwards, limiting how fully teachers could follow learning over time. This matters for families looking for learning that builds steadily as their child grows.

Care and Support

Tapestry connects nursery learning with home through photographs and written observations. ParentMail carries general communications, while Talk and Walk gives families a weekly learning overview to discuss with their child. These provide concrete starting points for conversation beyond asking what happened today.

Hot lunch forms part of the session or consumables charge. Nursery desserts are fruit and yoghurt, and the nursery, kitchen and dining hall are nut-free. Families should flag dietary needs; most special requirements can be accommodated when medical evidence is supplied. A special menu can be discussed with the office.

For children with SEND, additional support works towards individual targets, with progress monitored and parents updated. Education, health and children’s services can contribute when outside support is needed. Families using another language at home are encouraged to keep speaking it; Hampshire’s EMTAS service also provides term-time telephone support for communication with the school.

Moving On to Reception

Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate school application through Hampshire County Council’s online application route by the normal deadline. Treat that application as a distinct task, even when your child already attends the nursery.

For transition, the Reception team speaks with staff at children’s existing settings and aims to visit them there. This helps the receiving team understand children in familiar surroundings; it does not secure admission.

Practical Information

The nursery runs during term time for 38 weeks annually and closes on the infant school’s closure days. Since September 2026, the core choices have been Morning, 9:00am to 12:00pm; Afternoon, 12:00pm to 3:00pm; and All Day, 9:00am to 3:00pm.

Extensions add breakfast from 7:45am to 9:00am, or an afternoon club from 3:00pm until either 4:30pm or 6:00pm. Breakfast is included in the morning extension and a snack in either afternoon extension. Regular attendance patterns are requested; extra sessions depend on availability, and demand can mean a waiting list.

Funding of 15 or 30 hours per week depends on eligibility. Tax-Free Childcare and Childcare Vouchers are accepted. A non-refundable registration charge applies after an offer is accepted; contact the nursery for current charges.

Enquiries go to nursery@northbaddesley-inf.hants.sch.uk or 02380 412412, and families can arrange a visit through the office. Uniform is optional. During the school day, access is through the Botley Road pedestrian gate; visitor parking is off site, with a disabled bay available by arrangement.
