Nursery at Oak Tree Primary School

A 9am to 3pm day gives Oak Tree’s nursery a clear school-day shape. This is the nursery provision within Oak Tree Primary School in Cheadle Hulme, on Queens Road, rather than a separate childcare setting. For families planning their working day, that finishing time is a practical starting point.
There is a recognisable emphasis on early enjoyment of language. In March 2024, Ofsted described nursery children developing enthusiasm for stories, singing and rhymes. Books and spoken language give this provision its clearest character.
Stories, songs and rhymes feature in nursery learning. In March 2024, inspectors described nursery children’s enthusiasm for storytelling, singing and rhymes. This is a useful distinction: the nursery experience includes listening and joining in, rather than being described solely through preparation for school.
Social learning matters too. Children in early years practise sharing and playing together, while the same inspection described their willingness to tackle learning challenges. These are everyday foundations for taking part in a group: engaging with an activity and making room for another child.
The wider school’s science learning uses a garden, a wooded area and a pond area. These are school facilities, and their role in outdoor science gives useful context to the surroundings of the nursery provision.
Support for additional needs sits within the school’s Adaptive Teaching Approach. Its SEND provision covers communication and interaction, sensory or physical needs, learning difficulties, and social or emotional needs. Early intervention is part of that approach, making a conversation about a child’s needs relevant from the outset.
Parents can contact the school office or email the SENDCo at senco@oaktree.stockport.sch.uk to discuss provision. The Inclusion Lead Teacher works alongside the SENDCo and Pastoral Lead Teacher. Personalised classroom strategies and discussions with parents about anxiety are among the forms of support offered.
Parenting Anxious Children is a named course delivered jointly by the inclusion and pastoral leads. The pastoral role also covers difficulties at home, behaviour and wellbeing, with help towards referrals to outside agencies where needed. That gives families a point of contact for concerns extending beyond learning activities.
Behaviour practice uses praise, positive language and restorative reflection. The school also devises individual arrangements for children who need a different response from its main behaviour policy. For a nursery family, the useful principle is that support can be adjusted to the child.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions route.
Oak Tree follows Stockport’s admissions procedure. For the September 2026 intake, applications went to the Stockport Admissions Team, with a deadline of 15 January 2026. That deadline has passed; it belongs to that intake and should not be used as a future application date.
