Nursery at Rose Hill Primary School

Nursery rhymes, poems and stories give Rose Hill’s nursery a clear starting point: learning through language before formal reading gathers pace. This is the school’s own 40-place nursery, with most children starting in September. Entry in the term after a child’s third birthday is also possible when spaces remain.
Ofsted rated the school’s early years provision Good at the inspection on 2 and 3 November 2022. That judgement covers early years within the school, rather than a separately inspected nursery.
Early reading starts with listening and language. In November 2022, nursery children learned poems alongside stories and nursery rhymes, while children beginning school started learning letter sounds. These give parents concrete examples of the early years foundation stage in practice: young children building the foundations for later reading through words, sounds and books.
The nursery timetable starts at 8.35am and ends at 3.05pm, with lunch between 11.35am and 12.05pm. That gives the day a recognisable school rhythm, including a break for lunch between the morning and afternoon.
Across the school site, the outdoor play surfaces are level and largely accessible to wheelchair users. The Spring 2025 Accessibility Plan also identifies an accessible school building and a toilet adapted for disabled pupils. These are practical features for families considering physical access, rather than details about a particular nursery classroom.
A pastoral manager and learning mentor form the school’s pastoral team, which offers emotional support to children and their families. Parents can contact the team about concerns affecting their child. This gives families a route for discussing wellbeing alongside learning.
Makaton signing is used across the school to help children learn. For questions about special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), the school provides a direct email contact: sendco@rosehill.stockport.sch.uk. Families can use that route to discuss their child’s needs.
The November 2022 safeguarding findings described staff understanding their responsibility for protecting both pupils and children, receiving training and passing on concerns promptly. The practical implication is a shared responsibility across the staff team, with concerns escalated to leaders.
Attending Rose Hill’s nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through the normal admissions process and meet the deadline for their child’s intake.
For September 2025 entry, Stockport’s community primary admission arrangements gave no priority for nursery attendance. Stockport residents applied online through stockport.gov.uk/schooladmissions; families living elsewhere applied through their home local authority. The deadline for that intake was 15 January 2025. Those arrangements belong to a past admissions cycle: families planning a later start should use the council’s admissions service for their intake.
Session preferences are discussed after a nursery place has been offered. Office staff contact families to work through their preferred sessions and the spaces available. A place offer therefore comes before the discussion about the attendance pattern that fits the family.
For enquiries or an individual school visit, contact the office on 0161 427 9168. Autumn-term Open Afternoons also include a school tour. Families travelling by car are directed to the Bowden Lane entrance.
The school’s classroom doors open at 8.30am. Children arriving after 8.35am go through the office to sign in, so the morning routine needs to allow time for that start.
Rose Hill has a 40-place nursery attached to the primary school.
Most join in September. Children may also enter in the term after their third birthday if places remain.

No. Reception requires a separate application. The community primary arrangements for September 2025 entry did not give priority for attending the nursery.
