Nursery at Woodland View Primary and Nursery School

Fifteen hours a week, usually in morning sessions, defines the nursery pattern at Woodland View Primary and Nursery School in Huthwaite. This is part-time provision within the school, with children able to start in the term following their third birthday. Nursery is also called Foundation Stage 1, or F1.
For families planning childcare, that morning pattern is the decisive practical detail. It leaves the rest of the day to arrange separately.
Morning attendance is the usual arrangement. An afternoon session sometimes runs during the summer term when nursery numbers are high; families should therefore treat it as a conditional option rather than an alternative available throughout the year.
The weekly allocation is fifteen hours. That gives families a clear amount of nursery attendance around which to organise other care, while the distinction between the usual morning pattern and occasional summer afternoons matters when planning work commitments.
Support begins with information from home. The nursery registration form gives parents space to explain medical conditions or special educational needs, alongside their contact details. Keeping those details up to date allows the school to contact families about their child's place and transition arrangements.
For children who need help adjusting, the school encourages visits before starting and may arrange additional visits for those with special educational needs. Staff also liaise with previous settings and support services to understand a child's needs. Familiarisation and information sharing are separate parts of that preparation.
Across the school, the class teacher is the first contact for pastoral, social and medical care, with the SENCO involved where further advice or support is needed. Parents of children on the SEND register are invited to discuss provision each term, giving them a regular opportunity to explain changing needs and review support. Appointments with staff can also be made during the year.
School facilities include wheelchair access on the ground floor and a hygiene room. These are concrete considerations for families whose child needs physical access or personal care support. For medication needed during the school day on a health professional's recommendation, parents should contact the class teacher.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place at Woodland View. Parents must make a separate application to Nottinghamshire County Council School Admissions Team through the normal admissions process and meet its deadline. Families already using the nursery receive instructions from the admissions team about applying for a full-time school place.
Preparation for the change is a separate matter. Children starting school have a series of preliminary visits. For children with SEND, teachers share successful strategies when classes change, and social stories may be used where transition is expected to be difficult. These arrangements support adjustment; they do not secure admission.
