On gently rising ground at the northern edge of the Sevenoaks District of Kent, Swanley grew from a Victorian railway halt into a town of around 18,000 by the 2021 census. The bulk of its residential expansion came in the post-war decades, when fields and orchards gave way to the housing estates and retail parks that now define most of the built area.
Hextable is among the most sought-after pockets for primary school catchments, retaining a distinct village feel alongside the older Swanley settlement. Crockenhill lies to the east. Southeastern trains from Swanley station reach London Victoria in around twenty-five minutes on the Chatham Main Line.
