Wrekin Giants gives the youngest children a room of their own. Wrekin View Primary School has two nursery rooms in Wellington: Wrekin Giants for ages 2–3 and the Nursery room for ages 3–4. That age-based organisation is a concrete distinction for families choosing where their child will begin.
For children aged 3–4, the Nursery room offers morning or afternoon attendance, alongside a 30-hour funded option. Families can therefore choose a shorter session or the funded-hours pattern for which they qualify.
Early Years Foundation Stage learning includes getting to know the school environment, giving children a familiar starting point for learning about places. Communication is also part of the school's stated approach from nursery onwards: it aims to develop curiosity, confidence and resilience through purposeful learning experiences.
Online safety starts with Wrekin Giants and continues through the school. The teaching covers recognising risks and knowing what to do about them, bringing an introduction to safe technology use into the earliest years.
Settling begins before the first session. Children joining Wrekin Giants or Nursery, together with their parents, are invited to visit in the term before their start. This gives families an opportunity to become familiar with the room before attendance begins.
For children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), the school's support process involves parents in assessing needs, deciding on support and reviewing its effect. A SENCO coordinates provision, supported by Learning Support Practitioners and higher-level teaching assistants. Speech and language therapists and occupational therapists are among the external professionals the school can involve when needed.
Parents can raise concerns with their child's teacher or contact the SENCO. Agreed actions are recorded and shared with families, making the next steps explicit rather than leaving a conversation as an informal exchange.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place at Wrekin View. Parents must make a separate application through Telford and Wrekin Council's admissions route. The application period is normally the autumn term after the child's third birthday; applying remains the parents' responsibility.
Preparation for the move is a separate matter. During the summer term, teachers from the primary schools children will join come to meet them. Each child's key worker passes on information about learning and discusses emotional, social and health needs. That handover gives the receiving teacher more than an account of academic progress.
Children with education, health and care (EHC) plans have separate transition meetings involving the relevant agencies. Visits to the new setting with staff form part of these arrangements. Support already provided, further support needed and other agencies' involvement are shared for children with SEND or educational requirements.
The academy operates during term time. Nursery interest can be registered using the online application form, followed by an acknowledgement and a waiting-list place. Joining that list does not guarantee an offer. Nursery and Wrekin Giants places are allocated in order of application when space permits.
Eligible two-year-olds can access 15 funded hours where their families receive qualifying support, or 30 funded hours for eligible working families. Three-year-olds can receive 15 universal hours from the term after their third birthday, with a 30-hour option for eligible working parents. Additional private care depends on space and fees being paid fully and on time. Contact the school for current charges.
The school office on North Road can also handle nursery enquiries by telephone on 01952 951405. This provides a direct route for families ready to register their interest.
