Daily songs, stories and growing independence give Two Moors Nursery its character. This is the school's own provision in Tiverton, with a qualified teaching team and a place in the Dartmoor building alongside Reception and Year 1. For children, the nursery occupies a setting already shared with the next stages of school life.
Ofsted's report dated 3 March 2026 judged early years to meet the Expected standard. That judgement covers the school's early years provision rather than a separately inspected nursery. Language, early number skills and everyday care routines are the useful details behind it.
The early years foundation stage (EYFS) here builds communication, early mathematics and social confidence through everyday activity. Stories and singing feature daily, with routines giving children repeated opportunities to develop vocabulary and understand how to take part. Teaching breaks language and mathematics into manageable steps. The purpose is practical: children build the knowledge they need before tackling something more demanding.
Number work includes conversations that encourage children to explain their thinking, rather than simply give an answer. Staff also develop emotional understanding alongside language. Together, these activities make talking and listening part of learning, rather than an isolated exercise.
Within Dartmoor, a hall provides space for activities including drama and PE. The nursery curriculum is tailored to children's interests, skills and individual needs, giving the teaching team a basis for choosing activities that connect with each child.
Qualified nursery teachers lead the provision, supported by qualified staff. In March 2026, nursery care routines helped children develop independence and feel that they belonged. Positive relationships with adults supported healthy choices and learning to judge manageable risks. These everyday habits matter as much as the more recognisable teaching activities.
Children's learning barriers are picked up early, with families and outside partners involved in planning support. The early years findings specifically describe children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), and disadvantaged children, accessing effective provision. This gives parents a useful starting point for discussing how support will work for their child.
Meals stay close to the nursery day: children eat within the nursery itself, and the school kitchen prepares lunches on site. Nursery children also qualify for free fruit at playtime. Eating together is treated as a chance to talk with friends, making lunchtime another opportunity to practise social skills.
For communication beyond a conversation, parents can email the nursery team directly at nursery@twomoors.devon.sch.uk.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet the applicable deadline. Two Moors participates in Devon County Council's coordinated scheme, with online applications through the Devon Citizens Portal.
Sharing the Dartmoor building with Reception provides continuity of location. It should be considered separately from admission: choosing the nursery is a decision about the child's nursery experience, not a secured place for the following stage.
FISH provides childcare before and after school on the site and accepts nursery children. During school terms, its morning club runs from 7.45am to 8.55am; the afternoon club runs from 3.15pm to 6pm. Staff escort children between the club and classrooms, which helps families link childcare with the school day. Contact FISH directly about booking this provision.
A school visit can be arranged through the office on 01884 253006, or by emailing admin@twomoors.devon.sch.uk. This gives families a practical way to see the nursery's place within the school and discuss their child's needs before applying.
